Although, if you’re looking for a top-notch professional copy stand, nothing is comparable to the Albinar High Load stand . It comes with an exceptionally great stand structure with optimum features. Next, I focus the lens (I use autofocus; again, there’s no need to be super precise at this stage). Focusing can cause the image of the negative to grow or shrink. Accordingly, I might raise or lower the camera again and refocus (two or three iterations are usually enough). Alignment A key aspect in copy stand work is lens selection. At the very least, you need to ensure that your lens can focus as close as you need it to. Depending on the scale and magnification you are looking to achieve, you might need a macro lens. Alternatively, you can consider an extension tube, a close-up lens or a reversing ring with a regular lens. The 720 Copystand is solid and the electrics all UK approved. The all-metal column and camera arm will support 35mm, medium format, video or digital cameras. The 18% grey baseboard will take artwork up to 12 x 16 inches. You can adjust the metal lamps can be adjusted to any angle thanks to clever lighting arms, which simply clamp onto the baseboard. Talking about durability, that isn’t a compromise at all. Its main rod is made of high-grade Aluminum alloy and for the base, the cast iron is used there. These materials ensure the stand is built with premium quality and will withstand for a long time.

Coming to the flat and smooth base it comes with. The dimension of the base is 16 by 19 inches which are more than enough to have a great photography experience. The majority of the subjects will easily fit under these dimensions. I use a small, flat mirror for accurate alignment (i.e. ensuring the digital sensor is parallel to the film plane). With practice, this step takes only about 1–2 minutes, but you can treat it as optional; it depends on what your priorities are. If you’re digitising a large number of negatives and don’t care about optimal corner-to-corner sharpness, you can just align it by eye, or by any other method of your choice. Or you can try the mirror method once, see how much of a difference it makes (if any) and decide accordingly. The feature that makes the whole stand apart from the competitor is the sidelights. This feature comes along with the traditional-looking stand that’ll easily hold your camera in a position. Its lights are just like a study lamp that’s easily adjustable according to your needs. Although, you’ll have to buy the bulbs separately. The camera length can be adjusted with a wide range of 8 inches to 28 inches. Thus, you’ll get enough room to shoot quality photographs without compromising anything. Despite the angle adjustability the dimensions of the board are 15.75″x19″. On the other hand, if you’re a professional photographer the high-end copy stands have a lot more features to offer you.The first setup I’ll describe is a vertical setup with tripod, but the same principles apply if you use a copy stand. The second is a horizontal setup with no tripod – it’s a bit more fiddly, but may come in handy if you don’t have access to a tripod or copy stand. In both cases, I’m using pixl-latr as a film holder, but much of what I say here is applicable to film-digitisation with a camera more generally, regardless of what film-holder you use. On the other hand, for the camera holder, it mainly depends on the maximum holding load. Different copyholders come with different capacities, ranging from 2lbs to 10lbs according to the needs.

Libraries, historical societies, and archives use copy stands to digitize fragile and delicate objects. Photo copy stands ensure that you can capture images or books realistically. If you're a budding or professional photographer, or you enjoy stop-motion animation, copy stands can take your work to the next level. The camera arm holds your equipment securely in place, copy lights ensure consistent shadowing, and the adjustable camera arm allows you to zoom in or out on your subject. If you want to take advantage of the Auto PPI feature, the tool needs to be configured first. This is done by taking two captures with the camera placed in two different height positions on the copy stand. You will need to capture a subject with clear distance measurement, like a ruler. Select and use the Capture Resolution Rulertool to measure the pixel per inch value for each height position and note the height information on the stand and the resolution for both positions. The height position is read where the bottom of the carriage aligns with the copy stand ruler.

Needless to say, the company has paid a lot of attention to durability. The column here is constructed with heavy-duty extruded aluminum. At the same time, the height scale is printed on it to have better insight into the height. The utmost durability and stability are ensured here. Its complete rod structure is built with high-grade aluminum alloy. And for the unique flat base stainless steel is selected. The best part here is, its bottom flat surface is completely anti-slip by skid. Once again, if you’re bored of looking at setup photos, here’s a 35mm negative (Kodak T-Max 100, the same one you see in the photo above) digitised with a horizontal setup. For the (extremely accurate) alignment method which I describe in this post, you only need a small, flat mirror (I had a shaving-mirror whose silvering had degraded, so I unscrewed and removed the frame). Vertical setup with a tripodThe Cosmo Mini 500 Is ideal for students, collectors, art projects, video makers, PowerPoint presentations, documentation, restorations, signs, engraving, and graphics shops. Place an LED lightbox to digitize slides, negative films, calligraphy, tattoos, sketching & drawings. A: Perfect for taking macro shots with digital cameras. Holds your camera steady for shooting small objects, like coins or for copying artworks. The Cosmo Mini Copy Mag Stand is very small, compact, sturdy, portable and easy to setup in less than ONE minute. Q: What kind of light does a copy stand use? However, if you want to ensure the sharpest possible results – or if you’re testing or comparing lenses as I plan to do in my next post – accurate alignment is necessary; otherwise, it’s hard to tell if an apparent difference in image quality is due to the lens or due to inconsistent alignment. Copy stands are specialized devices, and most photographers can go their entire careers without ever needing one. In fact, many copy stand users are not photographers at all but technicians or scientists. The widest markets for these devices are museums and archives where they are used to reproduce or digitize books, artwork or manuscripts. Any time an item is too large, bulky or fragile for conventional scanning, a copy stand is used. You can see some high-end copy stands at work in the Stanford University Library’s video on digitizing above. To set up a darkroom space to start making prints of your 35mm and 120 negatives, you will need a few other items:
