Puh, I did not like it the first impression as a Gin & Tonic. I tried it with our Polidori Tonic. Second try: Fentimans Tonic. Not my taste. Third try: Britivic Tonic, not my palate again.

Today we did a little „Workshop“ on our August Special Drinks recommendation. Each month we have a Drink of the Month at Boilerman Bars and love the idea of also starting this at MONKEY BAR Cologne. And this time we are thinking about importing a not available Gin for our August specials to Germany. Pour the liquid into a large 16 ounce jar or bottle. Cool completely then refrigerate for up to 3-4 weeks. Best enjoyed by filling a highball glass with cubed ice, add 50ml Whitley Neill Rhubarb & Ginger Gin, then top with 100ml premium Tonic Water. Stir well and garnish with a thin slice of ginger and a wedge of lemon. If you want a gin and tonic, look for Fever Tree Light on the sweet end— maybe something more bitter like Q helps balance things out. I found it to be almost unbearably sweet in a Negroni. There’s no amount of the other two ingredients, which are sweet already, that can make this a balanced drink. Juniper, Orange, Lemon, Orris Bark, Coriander Seed, Angelica Root, Rhubarb Extract, Ginger Extract, Liquorice.

It’s got a cork-style lid rather than a screw top, with the latter traditionally being considered cheap, which gives Aldi’s bottle a subtly elevated feel.

It’s warming yet bright and summery, and most importantly, still tastes like a gin, with the juniper notes cutting through the bold flavour profile, which can often become diluted in a fruit spirit.

Flavor Profile

Rhubarb and ginger is a fantastic addition to this drink. For a refreshing drink, combine this recipe with a tonic. The flavor combination is right on. As a summer drink, this one will be my go-to choice. Notes of AromaRhubarb-y, sweet, and highly perfumed floral notes fill the air. Here, unfortunately, it’s just a lot of rhubarb and ginger candy. I find that pairing this gin with nearly anything that is sweet already— it becomes a bit cloying.
