Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty. And with her heart. These Hollow Vows is a fast-paced, enthralling fantasy perfect for fans of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I am already counting down the days until the sequel, These Twisted Bonds, is released. we have here a standard main heroine brie, who is speshul maximally by being duller and stupider than all the other girls altogether. she makes one illogical decision after another, she is annoying, hypocritical, but for some incomprehensible reason everyone loves her. I’m quite conflicted about this book, because I enjoyed reading it but there were so many issues that I couldn't ignore.

I've honestly had my eye on this series for a while bc it sounded really interesting and also, those covers are just gorgeous, and I'm glad I finally gave it a try!! 🥰 It wasn't a new fav or anything but I did have a fun time reading it 🫶🫶 Gr 9 Up—Brie, a white 17-year-old human, relies on the shadows to survive, thieving in the dark from rich merchants who trade humans to the untrustworthy fae. When her younger sister is sold to the Unseelie king, Brie doesn't hesitate in making a deal to free her by stealing from the rival Seelie queen. Infiltrating the Seelie court by posing as a potential bride for their golden-skinned crown prince is complicated first when Brie falls for him, and again when an enigmatic Unseelie with light brown skin and a diverse band of outlaws offers his help. Juggling loyalty to and romantic feelings for both Prince Ronan and Finn, Brie soon discovers that she isn't the only one with a secret agenda in a realm more nuanced than she originally believed. Engaging writing and worldbuilding help balance the uneven pacing and familiar tropes, while unexpected betrayals and a darker romantic tone lend to a faster second half. A cliffhanger ending sets up a compelling hook and chance at meaningful character growth for Brie in the sequel. VERDICT A readable faerie court fantasy that centers the love triangle over the action quest. Readers will see similarities to Sarah J. Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses and Kiera Cass's The Selection.— Madeline Newquist, Center for Fiction, Brooklyn, NY School Library Journal There was limited world building as its very character driven so I would love to see more of Faerie in the next installment. Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty - and with her heart. Finn is my favorite character in this book, and I am team Finn all the way, even though it seems as if he’s a “bad guy” at the end of the book. I want to believe that he is not and that Brie will end up with him. I really hope we will see more of him in the next book, and everybody knows that the brooding, mysterious, dark guy who is supposed to be the “evil guy” ends up being the good choice most of the time (#Rhysand). I actually can

I frown. “What kind of work?” There’s none that can earn me the kind of money I need. None except—“I might as well work for Creighton Gorst if I’m going to do that.” I could go on and on because, yes, I'm passionate about the fae. And yet, most of the time, the few root elements of their mythology IS ALWAYS IGNORED/ERASED and idk why but that just always irks me. So, for this to say that it's for those who loved The Cruel Prince it is NOTHING like that beautiful ode to faerie lore. Nor is it even like A Court of Thorns and Roses . . . which at least stays truer to fae lore ( but not really) than this. Stepping in to do this favor turns his life upside down, and not just because Grace is temptation in human form. Keep Grace out of trouble? Grace actually is the trouble. Chris now wants in.

I have a love / hate relationship with YA. I've always found it a little hard to review the ones I didn't enjoy because obviously I'm not the target audience! When her sister is sold to the sadistic king of the Unseelie, Brie enters the fairy realm to try and free her at all costs. To gain access, she poses as a potential bride for the Seelie prince. Brie is forced to enter a deal with the Unseelie King, agreeing to steal three magical relics from the Seelie court. She accepts the help of a band of Unseelie rebels, and soon her loyalties are divided between the Seelie and Unseelie courts, as she finds herself falling for the charms of Prince Ronan, as well as the brooding and charismatic Finn. the “main” love interests was just boring to me, i don’t enjoy friends to lovers so i was just bored but i think of you like that trope you’ll have so much fun with this trope.

The romance in this book was only okay, and it even felt a little bit immature at times. I just didn’t feel the real heat, chemistry, or sexual tension between Brie and Ronan, even when things got more intense and Brie wanted their relationship to move to the next step, I didn’t feel anything real between them. But then again, part of the awkwardness ends up being justified later in the book so it does make sense, but it was still weird to read. There was also a kind of possible love triangle between Brie, Ronan, and Finn, but it was clear from the very beginning who Brie loved, and who she wanted to choose, so there was no real competition between love interests, even when it was hinted that Brie might be developing feelings for the second potential love interest. Besides that, her attraction to Ronan seemed a little shallow to me. I get that she'd known him for two years and that he’s been the steady friend she’s been relying on, and I understand how that creates a strong bond, but even if she mostly talks about how gorgeous he is, and how she gets butterflies in her stomach when she looks at him, I didn’t really feel their deep emotional connection. This was honestly a pretty fun read!! 🤩🤩 it definitely had its issues (I could not with the mc 🙈) and it wasnt super original, but it was really entertaining 🫶🫶 There were some plot twist, that really took me by surprise and I can't wait to read the second book because the first book ends with a cliffhanger. The thought is like a shot of adrenaline to my system, pushing me to finish what I need to do. The shadows guide me out of the manor—a meandering path around trees and shrubs, dodging the moonlight as if this is a game.
