A priest (also played by Hopkins) tells him her soul is damned because she committed suicide. Enraged, Dracula renounces his pledge to God, which leads to him eventually becoming a vampire. Dracula believes Mina is the reincarnation of Elisabeta and is determined to reclaim her, regardless that she’s married to Harker in what Popovich called a “century-spanning cosmic raging romanticism.” When the charismatic Dracula meets Mina (Winona Ryder), a young woman who appears as the reincarnation of his lost love, the two embark on a journey of romantic passion and horror. Much like Michael Palmer summarized in his 2017 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray review, this film’s visual mileage and impact may rest on an understanding of the time this was filmed and the techniques used. Within any given scene, there are a lot of printed optical effects at play that can affect grain stability, clarity, softness, and other aspects of the image. However, I will say this 4K image certainly doesn’t betray these elements, if anything I had a greater appreciation of them and how fluidly they worked - Harker’s letter on the left side of the screen with Dracula’s castle to the right that fades into Harker’s room as he’s shaving while the letter then slowly fades revealing the full room as the narration finishes is beautiful in-camera effects work. Starring: Gary Oldman , Winona Ryder , Anthony Hopkins , Keanu Reeves , Richard E. Grant , Cary Elwes From Academy Award®-winning director Francis Ford Coppola (1974, Best Director, The Godfather Part II) comes the classic and chilling tale about the devastatingly seductive Transylvanian prince (Gary Oldman) who travels from Easter Europe to 19th-century London in search of human love.

evil.’ Coppola’s version humanized Dracula, it made him a star-crossed lover and generated empathy for the character,” said Popovich. “The film’s visual style is what makes it uniquely Coppola’s. The strange and flamboyant costumes constantly surprise the audience. The fact that most of the film was shot on sound stages instead of locations emphasizes the film’s picture-book quality.” A young English lawyer, Jonathan Harker, is sent to a gloomy village in eastern Europe. He is captured and imprisoned by the undead vampire Dracula, who travels to London, inspired by a photograph of Harker's betrothed, Mina Murray. In Britain, Dracula begins a reign of seduction and terror, draining the life from Mina's closest friend, Lucy Westenra. Lucy's friends gather together to try to drive away Dracula and rescue Mina.transports his native earth to London, dense city streets, nothing is left wanting for increased detailing and stability. Facial textures are particularly impressive. Van Helsing's scars and stubble seen in close-up when he lectures before a class in one scene is perhaps the best example of the

Look at the lantern Dracula holds at the 12:52 mark; the Blu-ray cannot produce the same light output or the vividness to that's nicely pronounced yet very organic. Textural delights abound. Even as much of the film is very dark, as Castle Dracula walls are a dead-gray From Academy Award®-winning director Francis Ford Coppola comes the remake of the classic and chilling tale about the devastatingly seductive Transylvanian prince (Gary Oldman) who travels from Eastern Europe to 19th century London in search of human love. After centuries alone in his crumbling castle, Dracula’s taste for humanity has grown bold with desire, drawing him out of seclusion. When the charismatic Dracula meets Mina (Winona Ryder), a young woman who appears as the reincarnation of his lost love, the two embark on a journey of romantic passion and horror.
