If the subject is closer, simply turn the brightness down. If the subject is farther away, then you would most likely need a higher wattage light to achieve proper exposure. With just the included reflector you get a crisp hard light. Placing the edge of the light roughly 2-feet from the side of the plate gives you an in-camera reading of 1/400sec ISO200 at f/2.4. (My Fuji has a default ISO of 200).

In the box are a long IEC cable, a Bowens mount reflector and remote control. The remote needs AAA batteries (not included). The remote can be set to 16 channels with 4 groups, the same as the light. This allows for a large number of lights to be controlled remotely. While the remote does appear to allow temperature changes, this light is white light only. You can dim the light from 100-10%. A single pushes give 1% changes while holding down the + or – buttons speeds this up. You can also turn the LED off from the remote, while the light remains powered up. Speaking of light modifiers, I might have found the perfect pairing for the SL-60. It’s called the Lantern Softbox and it’s made by Aputure. This softbox has some directionality to it, but it also has a lot of spill around the edges from the globe shape that helps to spread light around a wider area. It’s a fantastic solution if you only have one light, but you want to light a relatively large part of a room with a nice soft look. Godox designed an entirely new enclosure with large holes all the way around the light. These holes allow the UL60 to dissipate heat and passively cool using the air in the room. For videographers and filmmakers recording with microphones nearby, this is a highly desirable feature, and the biggest selling point of this light. Light output is continuous at a fixed, color temperature of 5600 kelvin, which is the temperature of natural daylight. The light is fully dimmable between 0 and 100%, and has a CRI value of 96 and TLCI value of 97 for accurate rendition of color in a subject when illuminated. The UL60 does not come with a padded carrying case. All it comes with is a disposable, cardboard box. The SL-60 isn’t all that big, but I was surprised how heavy it was. It doesn’t feel like a cheap hollow plastic box nearly as much as I expected.
