Description

An absolutely stunning, but also incredibly important novel about best friends and discovering who you are." —Mason Deaver, bestselling author of I Wish You All the Best Scottie was tougher to love. From what I remember, this book is in her first person pov and she says and does some things that quite bothered me. In the end, though, I was able to like her characters, especially how she is with Irene now. Oh, and Scottie is a basketball player. I don’t think there’s anything better than binge reading this hilarious young adult novel because it has flawed and relatable teenagers who are trying to sort out their emotional baggage and their unexpected attraction to each other. I’ve always been a certified book nerd and I don’t have an athletic bone in my body but I must say that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the basketball games and the practice sessions because I got to live vicariously through Scottie and her teammates. Plus, this story had enough angst and drama to keep me anchored to my couch for hours on end. By the way, this book cover is adorable and I love everything about it! Cons And Heads Up

You would think, based on the fact that I’ve watched the Say Anything … boom box scene a million times, that I wouldn’t have bumblebees in my stomach when my cheerleader girlfriend reenacts it for me in the school parking lot. Quindlen ( Her Name in the Sky) deftly conveys both the awkwardness of outgrowing an old life without having a clue how to move toward a new one. — Publisher WeeklyDanielle huffs. It’s not all about you. She turns to our forwards and center as they join us. Listen, do y’all recognize this play they’re about to run? On top of that this had absolutely amazing female friendships. Both of the main heroines have the strongest friend groups. I love seeing characters who have friends in there life that support each other this fiercely. Everyone needs a Honey-Belle. (Also can I get an entire book for Honey-Belle? She’s amazing) I think this book was really your typical heartwarming YA novel, complete with the tropes and cliches we all know and love. It was super light and funny, but with a good balance of angst and character growth, which made it really enjoyable. Irene is gorgeous but she is also cruel and dismissive to underlings like Scottie. Thanks to the accident, Irene will be without her car for a few weeks and she is forced to carpool with Scottie and that’s the last thing either of them want to do.

The secondary characters were all great. I especially loved the wonderful and supportive tight-knit group of friends as I always do with Kelly Quindlen(excluding trashbag Clay from HNITS, of course.) My first queer/lesbian book I’ve read and i can’t wait to read more. Our community The other team’s point guard has just about crossed the half-court line when the ref blows his whistle. My best friend, Danielle, has called for a time-out. Danielle is our point guard, varsity captain, and basically our makeshift coach because our official coach is clueless. She hustles over to me and speaks in an undertone before our forwards and center can join us. It’s the first basketball game of their season and Scottie Zajac is embarrassed beyond words when she loses to her ex-girlfriend’s team on her own home turf. When Scottie thought her day couldn’t get any worse, she gets into a fender bender with her worst enemy: Irene Abraham, the head cheerleader and the most popular girl at their high school. After losing spectacularly to her ex-girlfriend in their first game since their break up, Scottie Zajac gets into a fender bender with the worst possible person: her nemesis, the incredibly beautiful and incredibly mean Irene Abraham. Things only get worse when their nosey, do-gooder moms get involved and the girls are forced to carpool together until Irene’s car gets out of the shop. Kelly Quindlen is excellent in making me fall in love with her characters. Her previous book's - Late to the Party - main caharacter was in love with her friend group, too, just like Scottie, just like me through them. I dig my sneakers into the court and try to focus on playing defense. We’re playing man-to-man, which is usually my strong suit, but tonight it’s tripping me up because the opponent I’m guarding happens to be my ex-teammate. Scottie Zajac plays basketball at Grandma Earl High School and she is a die-hard fan of old school music and movies. Irene Abraham is the head cheerleader for the Fighting Reindeer and she is also Scottie’s biggest adversary. I’m going to be totally honest and admit that I wasn’t fond of Irene when she was first mentioned but I eventually warmed up to her when I saw a vulnerable side of her that she rarely allows anyone to see. My heart went out to Scottie from the beginning because I could easily relate to some of the self-esteem issues she had after her agonizing breakup with her ex-girlfriend. Scottie just broke up with her girlfriend Tally and lost spectacularly to her in the basketball game. And she is now extremely embarrassed. And there is only one solution to show her ex that she is okay. No not only okay but better and moved on.

Danielle huffs. “It’s not all about you.” She turns to our forwards and center as they join us. “Listen, do y’all recognize this play they’re about to run?” Jesus, Scottie, she mutters, like I’m the most impossible person in the world. "You’re being so over the top. It’s just a game." The crowd starts booing me. The Candlehawk players throw me scathing, superior looks, except for Tally, who grimaces like I’ve become unhinged. My coach freezes where she stands, clearly unsure of what a technical foul is.She Drives Me Crazy is cheesy and campy and angsty in the absolute best way possible. With brilliant character development and dynamics, an exploration of heartbreak, the effects of a toxic relationship and the importance of looking past preconceptions, Kelly Quindlen has created a story that will resonate with lots of teens, especially queer ones. The characters of She Drives Me Crazy are messy and flawed which just makes them all the more real. With nods to classic rom coms and expert trope usage, this book is perfect for anyone looking for some good teen fun, a lovely sapphic romance and expertly written characters.
