Among its large range of outdoor kit, La Sportiva produces technical mountaineering and hiking boots, and a little of that expertise is immediately apparent in the TX Hike GTX. First impressions Excellent build quality, including a highly abrasion-resistant mesh upper, well-integrated tongue and insole, and durable rubber at the outsole, rand, and toe.

So far I have no complaints with these boots in terms of breathability, but I haven’t hiked with them in 90 degree weather yet…although I may be tempted to try since they are so comfortable. La Sportiva does not offer this style without a Gore-tex membrane yet, but who knows, maybe they will eventually. Recommendation Gore-Tex Extended Comfort lining nicely protects against moisture while remaining decently breathable (for a waterproof boot, that is). The lacing system is very effective, securing the foot well, while there’s plenty of room in the toe box for toes to splay out. The first time I took out the La Sportiva TX Hike GTX Boots wasn’t on a hike; not a climb or run. I wore these at a country show and then swing dancing at the legendary Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. Hiking boots can be clunky for apres fun; not the Hike Mid GTX. Underfoot padding is relatively thin, which gives the boot a fairly stiff and unforgiving feel over long distances. The La Sportiva TX Hike Mid GTX boots are waterproof/breathable mids with a Gore-tex Extended Comfort membrane and mesh uppers which is very porous to help with breathability. There are many grades of Gore-tex, some more breathable than others, but this Extended Comfort membrane is one of the best performing and designed specifically for use in performance footwear.
