What really makes this novel stands out, though, is not the adventure into steampunkland or the straight adventure into finding the Lord Ruler's own metalmind that allows the wearer full access to all 16 metals and ferrochemical attributes, but the fact that it was done well. The Bands of Mourning is an oversized, spearhead shaped object made of all of the Allomantic metals.

Waxillium "Wax" Ladrian: The head of House Ladrian and a special constable and detective, Wax was once a lawman of the roughs. After I first read the last few sentences and I didn't quite understand what happened, so I just shrugged and read it again (few times actually). I know there are those who think that Sanderson fails at crafting believable, sympathetic characters. She knows she isn't the most useful person in a fight but she plays to her own strengths as the situation warrants.My poor heart just could not keep up: there were almost-crashes, followed by relief, actual crashes, tears, more relief…. She reminded me somewhat of a librarian or an archivist, a person who has been shut away from reality for some time and is finally having to face it.

She doesn’t want to be left behind, and she is willing to become something more to insure that this doesn’t become the case. Along the way he discovers hints that point to the true goals of his uncle Edwarn and the shadowy organization known as The Set. After all, the magic system still rocked and turning the series into a western wasn't *that* far out of the realms of possibility. The carriage lurched into motion, and Steris leaned out the window, waving farewell to the poor innkeeper.I can't mention specifics because they're all spoilers, but if you're craving the standard pulse-pounding Sanderlanche, you will be getting one here. So different to anything I've read by Sanderson but it was incredible and is my favourite of all six Mistborn books!
