Widely hailed as their masterpiece, and voted 15 in Q Magazine's 100 Greatest British Albums Ever (2000), 'Mezzanine' saw the band move away from the 'trip-hop' sound they had helped define to embrace rock and electronica. The original featured a band photo, which is noticeably absent on this reissue, and overall the basic matt card used, with some template card points still visible/feel-able on the edges) has left me a little underwhelmed. To put it simply, it's brilliant, and arguably remains the Bristol-based outfit's finest work to date (though some would argue that the dark and paranoid Mezzanine is possibly better).

years on, the set still sounds sublime: a radical translation that frequently bares only a passing resemblance to the Bristol band's original. Please note, The Vinyl Whistle accepts no responsibility for any package which is damaged, lost or stolen during transit.

All-time classics such as "Unfinished Sympathy", "Safe From Harm" and "Hymn of the Big Wheel" have lost none of their soulful, mood-enhancing brilliance, while lesser celebrated cuts such as "Five Man Army" and "Lately" still sound great despite their vintage.I consider myself lucky as coloured plastic discs, particularly dark colours, can be troublesome (and the first reviewer here has experienced unacceptable playback issues, possibly as a result).

Even if you own the original version already, it's well worth picking up this special edition just for that alone. Sound-wise the remaster is subtle but allows some elements to show through with extra clarity - thankfully no brick-walling (which would have made this material totally unplayable! It's very apparent on "Dissolved Girl," as soon as the vocals come in with "shame, s*s*such a shame". But I bought this one in late July of the year 2023 and received an amazingly good sounding set of records that aren't cut too loud but still using the space of one disc's side for two to three tunes, making them sound like a 12" 45. Every record is shipped in original factory-applied shrink wrap and has never been touched by human hands.Review: Given Massive Attack's background, it was almost inevitable that they'd release a dub overhaul of one of their albums at one point.

Some mechanical issues; Side "A" groove is slightly off center, not causing audible issues, but frustrating. In the edit page, go to the 'Metadata' tab and add your Juno artist, label or release page for listeners to purchase your release / releases. The inter band friction created some gems; "Inertia Creeps" is drenched in menace, and "Teardrop" features the ethereal vocals of Liz Fraser of the Cocteau Twins - both of these a benchmark not just for the band, but for the trip-hop genre. All eight of the Mad Professor remixes included on the anniversary reissue are previously unreleased and include his dub mixes of two tracks not originally featured on Mezzanine but from the same period – Metal Banshee – a dub version of ‘Superpredators’ which was a cover of Siouxsie and the Banshees’ ‘Metal Postcard’ – and ‘Wire’, a track they recorded for the soundtrack of the film Welcome to Sarajevo. During the Gulf War in 1991, their releases were labeled as 'Massive' to ensure continued airplay amidst pressure from the British Government.Mezzanine" is a murky, dank, haunting, atmospheric, brooding (if Batman was a real person this would be on his playlist for sure! Will usually dispatch within same working day if paid before 14:00 GMT (excludes weekends and holidays).
