Description

Vintage ports are aged in barrels for a maximum of 2 years before bottling, and often require another 5 to 15 years of aging in the bottle before reaching what is considered proper drinking age. Graham’s 40 Year Old Tawny is for those who appreciate the extraordinary, complex and subtle taste of time. After receiving twenty seven barrels of Port as a payment through their textiles business, they decided to focus all their energy on making the best Port wines from the Douro Valley. If you are looking for a specific bottle requirement it is recommended that you verify with us before making a purchase.

Particularly fine vintage ports can continue to gain complexity and drink wonderfully for decades after they were bottled, and therefore can be particularly sought after and expensive wines. An array of flavours, from delicate fruit and raisins, to toasted toffee and chocolate, with an outstanding aftertaste. Available by the bottle or case, your wine gift will be individually tailored with a personal message, tasting notes and vintage description. Graham’s 40 Year Old Tawny shows golden amber in colour, with a pale green tinge at the rim, denoting great age.

unless we get written confirmation from you that this is acceptable and that you will take full responsibilty if the parcel goes missing. As you pour this wine into your glass, you will immediately notice its deep amber color and sweet, intense aromas of dried fruit, nuts, and toffee. Today, Graham's is one of the most respected port wine producers in the world, known for exceptional quality and unique taste.

Because it has already been exposed to oxygen, an open bottle of tawny resists oxidation the longest of all ports. Unfiltered or ""Traditional"" LBV ports require decanting like vintage ports do, and may improve in the bottle. Aged for an average of 40 years in seasoned oak casks, our 40 Year Old Tawny is a testament to time and patience. It is essential to strike the correct balance between the delicacy and elegance which results from prolonged cask-ageing and the rich fruit quality which lends these old tawnies their structure, freshness and longevity.

Only small quantities of this wine are made and sold and they’re held in very high esteem by tawny Port aficionados. This may affect factors including the product style and allergen information, and we would advise that you always check the label and not solely rely on the information presented here. There may be extra charges for some postcodes including but not limited to Northern Ireland, Scottish Highlands, and British overseas territories.
