When Pulp released Different Class in October 1995, it was at the peak of the Britpop era – less a cultural movement and more a label the music press had slapped on a collection of disparate (though mostly white, guitar-based) British bands infiltrating the charts in the mid-90s. When Jarvis hisses "I can't help it / I was dragged up / Grass is something you smoke/ Birds are something you shag / Take your 'Year In Provence' and shove it up your ass," it sounds like mustard gas escaping over the trenches in the class war.

There are definitely Britpop bands I prefer - Oasis, for one - but I do think Different Class by Pulp is the genre's definitive moment. Alluding to society and the British class system, 'Different Class' was definitely of its time, but still resonates today.

Number seven on NME’s best albums of 95, 11 on Mojo’s, and taking top spot on Melody Maker’s countdown, it was clear that Different Class was another critical hit. Be aware that even sealed copies of this may have vinyl that looks and plays like it been thrown through a hedge.

Originally released in 1973, The Dark Side Of The Moon became Pink Floyd's first number one album in the USA, remaining on the chart for 741 weeks between 1973 and 1988.Two years later we made the move to our present address, 35 The Headrow, where we have remained ever since. Related Artists - Alpha, Jarv Is, Jarvis Cocker, Relaxed Muscle, The Chocolate Layers, The Lovers, The Nu Forest, The White Sport. Jarvis Cocker has done revolutionary things within his life time the most recent was in 1996 when he mooned Michael 'Creepy' Jackson at the Brits.

By the time Different Class was released at the end of October 1995, Pulp, particularly lead singer Jarvis Cocker, were genuine British superstars. By that summer Britpop had reached – depending on your point of view – either its apex or nadir, when Blur and Oasis were involved in a chart battle that dominated newspapers and made the BBC’s Six O’Clock News. Different Class (released in Japan as Common People) is the fifth studio album by English rock band Pulp, released on 30 October 1995 by Island Records.A million listens would not be enough to get all the humour and dirt and sex that is in "A Different Class.
