The story begins in 1935 when Ruby and Verity are young girls in their teens and meet on Hampstead Heath. As for Verity she goes from a life of comfort and privilege to the opposite end of the scale altogether and it is all her father's fault. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal.
