I am really enjoying this series, getting to know the characters and enjoying how they solve the murders. But it has a compelling plot and a villain whose psychology is horribly believable -- having been rejected by the woman he idolizes, he seeks out others who resemble her and tries to get them to "be" her, and when they can't measure up to his exacting standards he punishes them, eventually torturing and killing them.

The storyline of the missing child felt incomplete, although perhaps it will be explored in the next book? I've gradually picked up on the fact that DS, DI, and DCI are police officials of increasing rank, they work out of a "Nick," and they would rather catch the bad guy before he decides to "do one.

I know safety and finality are implied but rather than a chapter of the next book I would like a concluding chapter to the one I’d just listened to!

Although the wtiting is taunt and there is urgency in the developing case I miss the time spent misleading the reader, entertaining the reader and using words to carry a more rounded story. I do feel I should state here that there are some scenes of sexual violence that could be distressing for readers, if this is something that you feel could be upsetting for you this is maybe one to avoid. For the first bit of this book he keeps telling Ruth he's going to "sort things out" with Monika, but then does his own thing.
