OR pick up a copy from London’s Proud Galleries and explore the magic of the Stereoscopy Is Good For You exhibition whilst you’re there….

As well as many images from Europe, Stereoscopy is Good for You features work from farther-flung places. It was as if they were actually there amongst the Great Pyramids of Giza, or looking up at the Matterhorn, or standing in the rice fields of China. If you take a stereoscopic picture, it’s something which you can walk into at any time in the future and experience echoes of what you felt at that moment. In Brian May’s own words, and over 300 previously unseen 3-D photographs, this book is a series of glimpses of life with the rock band Queen, seen from the inside for the first time. While getting books signed by Brian May, visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the wonders of the exhibition – “Stereoscopy Is Good For You: Life in 3-D”. I hate seeing inaccuracies in stereo photography books, where some of the pictures are the wrong way round or give you headaches. Out of that pottering comes his latest project, reflecting another of his quirky hobbies: the Victorian invention of stereoscopy, a technique that produces a 3D image from two photos side by side when viewed through special glasses (of which May has, of course, designed and patented his own brand). We had a dream of doing great gigs and everything, but it happened way way way bigger than we could have anticipated.

When Brian May revived the London Stereoscopic Company, he projected this specialised form of photography into the 21st Century.WATCH VIDEO: There’s still time to get Brian May’s book of joy and beauty as a gift in time for Christmas! Yes, we now have the crowdfunded Qoocam, which is a nice stereo stills and movie camera, but it would be nice to have something built into phones. Unlike our previous books,’ he continues, ‘these images came in with every conceivable kind of alignment, framing etc, so it was an enormous job editing each one to get it to the optimum point. Viewed in May’s patent OWL viewer (included), they leap into stunning three-dimensional realism, giving uniquely vivid impression of life with Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor, John Deacon and Brian himself, alongside the people who helped to shape Queen’s amazing global adventure.

You need to keep a firm watch on the convergence of the images and now they are aligned to avoid straining the readers’ eyes. So there's a lot of that in these dioramas as well, there is a lot of satire - and very dangerous satire because they were liable to be put in prison at any time for saying things like this. He’s publishing a new book and holding an exhibition of pictures that capture the world in incredible and immersive detail.I encouraged people to capture in a 3-D photograph what hope they felt, what beauty they could find in that tough situation. That means that with every subscription, we are supporting people in poverty to get back on their own two feet. Stereoscopy turned out to be a “rollercoaster ride with peaks and periods of total oblivion and neglect”, he added.
