David Day's books - for both adults and children - have sold over 3 million copies worldwide and were translated into twenty languages. It provides many maps at different levels of detail, from whole lands to cities and individual buildings, and of major events like the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. HarperCollins republished the revised edition in London in 1994, reprinting it in 1999, 2016, and 2017.

Packed with full page maps and illustrations of events in the annals of Middle-earth, it is the perfect companion to the bestselling A DICTIONARY OF TOLKIEN. Here, Day's information is concise and to the point, giving us a history and overview of Middle Earth that makes it easy to follow and understand, lots of the text just being one to a few pages on each topic and location, and I found it very fun and interesting to read. David Day is to be commended for creating a relatively cohesive and conclusive guide from what is, really, a pretty scattered legendarium covering a lot of vaguary, incomplete sections and complete sections full of such batty ideas as sunken islands, hand-built mountain ranges, and a world re-shaped not once but twice by a very grumpy god who doesn't understand why we can't all just get along. The pages are high quality, thick, and lack any off-putting glossiness and the binding is top-notch.

In 1986, his children's novel, The Emperor's Panda was nominated for the Governor General's Award and the National Library Award, and was adapted for stage by the Toronto Young People's Theatre.

It's giving glimpses at the wider narratives, providing context, such as Tolkien's Creation Myth, and details of events in The Silmarillion that led up to, and provide context for, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

The Beerded Goat Brewery As we reported a few weeks ago – The Beerded Goat Brewing Company Has Taken Over the Old NewFangled Brewery – and tonight is their grand opening.

The maps are organised first by period, with chapters on the First, Second, and Third Ages of Middle-earth. Packed with full page maps and illustrations of events in the annals of Middle-earth, it is the perfect companion to the bestselling A Dictionary of Tolkien . The one page interludes about various characters and monsters are nice, but are such quick blurbs that it feels like their just space fillers. This atlas features colored maps and illustrations throughout, but despite being created long after the releases of Peter Jackson’s famous Lord of the Rings movies, the book contains neither cinematic stills nor film-inspired drawings. He has published a further six books of poetry that have been prizewinners in CBC and National Magazine Awards and have been praised by Canadian poets Al Purdy, Earle Birney, Margaret Atwood and the British poet laureate, Ted Hughes.

The coasts are especially awful, with Gondor actually being on the same line of longitude as Eriador. Incorporation of these names and places on equal footing with those from later in the legendarium's evolution is questionable, but Fonstad seems to have been aware of the potential issues and explicitly notes in the accompanying text the speculative nature of the maps of the Undying Lands.

Then there is map, which is an interesting take on the cosmology of Ea, not horrible, but not great either as it seems to exhibit anachronistic features and the shape is all wrong. It is a reasonably accurate map of Numenor, through the shape is a little off, especially around the coasts, and the city placement is affected by that. The book was published in 1981, but in 1991 a revised and updated version was published, which took information from The History of Middle-earth into account.
