Now I'm here, a prisoner of Fourth Kingdom's army, and I'm not sure if I'm going to make it out of this in one piece. In Glint, I was very happy to see Auren became a little more confident with her ribbons, and more confident with herself in general. it's absolutely rare that when i don't like the first book, the rest will come not as surprise and disappoint me as well) I enjoyed this wayyy more than Gild obviously like the new friendships, banter, and character development was just so good , despite the Malina chapters were boring and I could care less about her💀 . I'd already decided to quit so it wasn't too bad for me but for people who are genuinely engaged in the series, that could be devastating. Some may feel the plot moves too slowly, but I thought Kennedy’s portrayal of Auren’s trauma processing was realistic.

This humanization paired really well with the increasing presence of Aur Glint releases today, and both books are available on Kindle Unlimited, so you definitely need to check it out if you are a fan of dark adult fantasies. In her eyes Midas can do no wrong she is blind to all of his many flaws she has set him on a pedestal so it was then heartbreaking to witness the blinkers Auren has been wearing for so long finally ripped from her eyes. Now that he’s gone off ruling the Fifth Kingdom after the machinations he set in motion in the first book, Malina sits on her ancestral throne…. Queen Malina decides she has had enough of King Midas’ shit and takes his kingdom for herself while he’s away trying to take over another. All she wants is to get back to her beloved King, but as time trickles by, Auren learns more about the fourth kingdom's army, and they aren't the monsters she was told about. She might be at the mercy of an enemy kingdom, but It is also heavily character-centered, an intense journey of self-discovery, awakening, and empowerment. The sexual tension between Rip and Auren is so spectacularly done, it’s such a big improvement to finally see some actual romantic promise in this series because there was absolutely NOTHING romantic about King Midas and his relationship with Auren…Rip is ready for something to happen, but it’s still clear that Auren has a ways to go in terms of growth before anything happens there, but let’s definitely agree when I say that some seeds are planted! The Georg Büchner Prize, the most prestigious prize in German literature, has been awarded to a magician of poetic language.

Because if I show him my fear, if I reveal my weaknesses to this male, he’ll latch onto those threads and yank them all, unraveling me completely. Seiler has masterful command of a subtle style, both skittish and firm in its diction and movement, tense and tensile in its branching extensions and jittery vertiginous drops.

Fully aware of her predicament, her situation becomes somewhat nuanced as she strikes up reluctant friendships born from circumstance. That is, trauma recovery is not linear and this amount of time is necessary for Auren to reflect upon her past and recent events. I liked Glint even more than the first book, and now that we have seen a hint of romance for our main character, I am even more excited to read the next book.

The reader has an intimate look into Auren’s thoughts as she experiences a self-awakening about who she is and what she wants. She may not be able to disentangle herself from her captor just yet, there's much she still needs to come to terms with, but there's still hope for her. The first book laid some pretty decent foundational groundwork but there were a lot of things I didn't like. The story picks up almost immediately with how Gild ended: Auren, along with the small chunk of Midas’s soldiers and the saddles, have been taken in by Commander Rip, general to King Ravinger’s army.We slowly got to see Auren became the woman she only thought she could dream of being, to see there is more to her than being Midas’ golden pet, to see behind that ascent into greatness…but not 100% there yet. In this one Laura Chant has to enter a supernatural world to help save her brother from an evil charm. I bet you’ve even met a man who plays it cool, acts like it’s her choice what she does with her captive mind and soul…maybe you have. This sparks confusion from Auren as she inwardly wars with the love and history she shares with Midas and her newfound “freedom. How did I look into his eyes every day and not see that when he looked back, he was devoted to the gleam of my skin rather than the love of my heart?

After being “rescued” from the snow pirates, Auren is now captive of the Fourth’s army and their feared commander, Rip.The story by this point really branches off and becomes it’s own thing from the original tale of Midas and his power, and with that comes a more interesting and unpredictable story to keep you guessing as to what could possibly happen next! I kept waiting for this book to build from the previous book but it was happening at much too slow of a rate. I really love Raven Kennedy’s writing, and I would have read this whole book in one sitting if it wasn’t for my body’s stupid need for sleep… 🙄 Seriously though, this book is even better than the first one, and this series is definitely a new favorite of mine and an addictive guilty pleasure. while i thought this was because the first book was meant to introduce characters and do some world building, im now realising that its just RKs writing style.
