Eye Relief measures 12mm, which is okay for non-glass wearers. I dont wear glasses, but still i could not see entire field of view. I need to pull the rubber eye-cups down to see the entire field of view, which bugs me a lot while birding. Eye-relief is quite poor when comparable with other bins. I need to press my eyes on the eye-piece to see the field of view better. Of course it causes, headache and nausea after long time using. Great field of view – The 10x magnification and the 50mm lenses provide a good sized 114 metres field of view with an angle view of 65 degrees. Features:1.2cm eye relief – extra wide 65° field of view – High-quality protective coating – Easy to use focus wheels. Close focus is 19.7 ft on paper. But i could focus clearly for about 15 ft. Still it is not good for butterfly watchers especially.

Short sightedness may be a problem, because you have to focus the binocular "beyond infinity"; most do to some extent but in some cases (e.g. the first incarnation of the Helios Stellar 15x70 - don't know about current ones) that is for minuscule values of "some", rendering them "not good" for anything other than very mild myopia. Don't rely on daylight testing for this because your eye's pupil will be small and your eye's depth of field will be greater than in the dark, when it dilates. Now lets turn to optical quality, probably which is the most desirable feature of these bins. They are simply superb in optics in this price range. Have you ever thought of buying a pair? Do you have a pair already? I can remember going on island holidays with my family as a child and using my father’s clunky binoculars to try and spot dolphins and exotic birds. Even though they weren’t very good, they did make a world of difference during my searches. So, imagine how much difference a really good pair could make! Turn your holiday, hobby, or everyday stroll into something extraordinary.

I suspect they might just scrape by as keepers as I actually do have a need for a pair of 10x50s. They offer a pleasing view. I'm under no illusions they would definitely last any great length of time. They will need treating with very good care as they don't feel anything remotely like bullet proof. Note that they don't creak or anything, but you also know they are decidedly not military grade!

Worse than that are simply coated or as Olympus describe theirs as having a “Monolayer coating”– this means that only SOME surfaces (they don’t say how many, but it is usually just the first and last lens surfaces) have received just a Single anti-reflection coating. Olympus fail to specify what glass they use to make the prisms with, this for me is a concern as on their higher spec models, they clearly state that they use BaK-4 Glass. So I would assume that whatever they use it is not as good, otherwise they would surely highlight the fact. My Advice The viewer can make precise dioptric adjustments to +- 2 m -1 ( for fixed magnification models; +- 1 m -1 for zoom model ) to match his or her eyesight. Clarity of the image is very good. I could clearly read tiny letters in a small board 200 feet away.Resolutions and contrast is also very good. Ofcourse they do suffer from C.A but its quite minimal.(I am a newbie and not and optics expert. So, i cant comment more on this issue.). As well as this, for me, fully sealing the unit is a major indicator within this price range to the all-round quality of the binocular and shows what level of effort the manufacturers have gone to, to make your binoculars. So whilst you may be very careful and never get any moisture inside your unprotected binoculars and keep them in a dust free environment, you still have to wonder what other corners have they cut to keep the cost of the product down? Roof Prism vs Porro Prism

Astro view can not yet be tested, It's the UK, we always have cloud. Oh, that, and its only been day time so far! Eye-cups are made of rubber. They are of quite good quality and i dont think they would break even if we pull down them often. Glass-wearers need to pull-down the eye-cups for full field of view. Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. ( President : Tsuyoshi Kikukawa ) is pleased to introduce the new DPS I Series of porro-prism binoculars. This new line follows in the footsteps of the successful DPS / DPS R series that recorded worldwide sales of over 320,000 units, offering the same high performance and affordable price, while updating the fundamentally classic styling. The apparent field of view offered is a versatile 65 degrees ( 7x35 / 8x 40 / 10x50 ), and bright image viewing is assured by way of their generous exit pupils. UV protection lenses make it ideal for outdoors use as a companion for bird watching, sporting events, and other activities. For anyone who wants high quality viewing and easy handling at a reasonable price, the DPS I Series from Olympus deserves a good look.

Rubber grip – The rubber coating on these binoculars will ensure you have a firm grip of them at all times.

Binoculars

However, I've not yet found them to defocus in use. I'm concerned that if it is plastic then in the cold they could easily become brittle. So, quite possibly an astro use issue in the making. However, these coatings cost money and so to keep the manufacturing costs down on cheap binoculars, they will not only reduce the amount of glass surfaces that they coat, but also the amount of layers of these coatings on the surface that they do coat. The focus ring is a bit of a stretch, and I have larger hands than most gloves will comfortably accommodate. If you have average or small hands I'd urge you to try them before deciding if this is an issue for you or not. Heavy duty – These binoculars consist of 855 grams in weight so they are definitely built to last, but not recommended to use for hours without a tripod.
