It has its flaws like any other set: the grey Technic axle used between the Robin and tree branch, black pieces used instead of ‘Earth Blue' for the Blue Jay and the loose ‘Earth Green' pieces of the Hummingbird. I was digging a vegetable patch one day and during a quick break I noticed a Robin land on my fork handle. This site is made possible by our members, sponsors, and via affiliate links to our favorite smart books, toys, games + more. Appeal to builders aged 9 and over with a fun gift to have in time for both spring and Easter – the LEGO® Bird’s Nest (40639) kit.

I like that the scale is pretty close to the real bird and it also make these models feel like your personal pets. In front of the pedestal we have the printed 'Flat Tile 2x4' with the name of the specific bird which keeps them partly hidden and at the edge of the base we have a ‘San Yellow’ finish to possibly represent wood. There are also a few rare pieces in this set: Plate 6x16 (Dark Green), Right Plate 3X8 W/Angle (Earth Blue), Left Plate 3X8 W/Angle Earth Blue), Roof Tile 4X2/18° W/Cor.Put down your binoculars and get closer to nature with these intricate LEGO® models of well-known birds! Celebrate spring – Build a LEGO® Bird’s Nest (40639) for a meaningful seasonal or Easter display for a table or shelf. It was like building a sphere – you first started out with the core and slowly added all the little elements around it such as its red plumage, tail, wings and legs.

Luckily, you’re only really going to be looking at the Robin from the front, so its lackluster behind isn’t really a detracting factor. Sadly most species are in decline, which makes it all the more worthwhile to really look and appreciate them. There are recolours of certain pieces which are now exclusive to this set at the time of this review: Plate 2X4X18° (Dark Green), Corner Plate 45 Deg. I mean, Birds was the largest set coming in at 580 pieces, many of which were tiles and cheese slopes– many pieces for a relatively small set. These beautiful and detailed models come with their own presentation stands showing their scientific names, so that you can display your birds for allto enjoy or detach and play as you wish.Going to digress a little, but now that we have a set devoted to Birds, I would love a set that’s all about creating beautiful flowers and flora out of LEGO. It just looks off to me for some reason, and I think that’s mostly due to the exposed blue Technic pins. I have always loved nature and being a tree surgeon and gardener I get a lot of inspiration from my job. The Hummingbird is quite small and the clever use of cheese slops to give it a bit of shape and definition is quite brilliant – I also like the dark green cheese slopes which breaks up the colour scheme in a great way. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was the base where the "stick" on the birds go, putting it through the 2 holes vs a more solid connection seemed like they will fall out at times.
