From rising comic-book stars Anand RK and Ram V ( Paradiso, These Savage Shores, Batman Secret Files). Grafity’s Wall, however, has its own identity that is a masterclass of art and feels, from melancholy to upbeat. this is extremely human and strongly conspicuous to any individual who has ever been youthful and needed more. As Grafity's mural on the wall grows, it chronicles the lives of his friends--Jay, a young man with dreams of being a rapper lured into the dangerous path of a gangster. The reality of it is the fact that it can transcend past whatever the intention, and speak to people in a plethora of ways, now and in the far future, endlessly waiting to be interpreted and reinterpreted.

I wish more comics made me feel this way, which feels deeply selfish to say on some level, but is certainly true. Author Ram V and artist Anand R K really capture life in this city, the good and the bad, through a series of interconnected slice-of-life moments that feel genuine and heartfelt. With strong influenced on his sleeve (Moebius, Katsuhiro Otomo, Taiyō Matsumoto) but his very own take on exaggeration and linework, I really appreciated everything about the artwork and the flow of his characters. He’s friends with Jayesh (“Jay,” who’s the most “Americanized” of the trio) and Chasma, both of whom have their own issues. From the slithering, steamy “HISS” of street food to the rough “RATTLE” of cans shaking on a bicycle, Bidikar’s lettering captures not only the setting in question, but also situates the reader within it, transporting them with the mere power of sound. She’s a brilliant filmmaker, delivering devastatingly touching stories via both Lady Bird (2017) and Little Women (2019). It’s fitting that Saira, the woman, understands that she needs to get out, because her experience with the city is very different than the experiences of the men, and she’s the only one level-headed enough to have a plan to leave. It felt like a book for me or at least, in a way, it felt like a book for people like me, people who understood. The art style was definitely unique and it was a really different story from many others I've read, but I didn't really enjoy it.

Ram V has put together an impressive year or two of comics, and now we have another one from him, the oddly named Grafity’s Wall, which is published by Dark Horse. He likes nothing more than sitting down to eat a good marble omelet while listening to Metal Machine Music on 78 rpm. We take intellectual property concerns very seriously, but many of these problems can be resolved directly by the parties involved. I’ve never been there, but with the life in these pages, I can only assume that this is what it feels like, because if it wasn’t speaking to some truth, it wouldn’t hit as hard or be as vibrant as it is. When an aspiring street artist by the name of 'Grafity' watches the tenements outside his home being razed, he finds an unlikely canvas at the one wall still left standing in the debris.Turning off the personalised advertising setting won’t stop you from seeing Etsy ads, but it may make the ads you see less relevant or more repetitive. It feels like a ritual of exorcism, of expelling out this thing you have within you, that’s always been within you.
