The posthumously published story by the author of Harriet the Spy exhibits an even gentler touch than do her other picture books ( I Am Five , etc.

I'm not sure I have ever used the word "delightful" before in a review but here it applies, yes this was delightful and a good story for children and a fine book for adults to read to children. The story itself is extremely realistic, as many children have refused to try new foods at one point in time. will make six-year-old Nora and her little brother the favorite fiction friends of all readers, any age. I agree with Albert who says, “I think it’s nice that there all different kinds of lunches and breakfasts and dinners and snacks. These kids must've walked to school and had an active morning recess to be hungry enough for all that food!Betsy Bird is currently the Collection Development Manager of the Evanston Public Library system and a former Materials Specialist for New York Public Library. The Hobans have done it again: a sly text attacking a real juvenile problem and attractive illustrations.

Faced with no alternative Frances comes to the conclusion that although she loves bread and jam she does not want to eat it at every meal.Even though I don't actually like most of the foods that comprise Frances' particular diet (barring bread and jam, of course), the book always made me really hungry anyway.

Dean Carlson for AllMusic praised the album for taking the "darkwave pretensions of Switchblade Symphony's previous material and pushed it through an even more stylized electronic filter. It also looks at the fine balance between who we are as individuals and honoring our loves, our expressions, and our desires and our need for community, sharing in a collective experience, and finding a sense of belonging with others through trying new things that might be unfamiliar (and possibly self-betraying? The classic funny I Can Read story about a stubborn little badger with very particular tastes in food. As dad eats spaghetti, there’s a pepper mill on one side of his plate, a hunk of cheese and a grater on the other. The illustrations are old school and include lots of texture as though things like pencils, charcoal, and chalks were used to create the illustrations. My daughters and I have been known to break out singing “It is sad and lonely here/eating prunes and rice/ eating all alone/is not really very nice. First off there was the unintentional connection with The Disgusting Sandwich because both books feature a badger. It's a rich, lush, descriptive book that aches to be read aloud, not just in a sing-songy "I'm reading to kids" way, but in a poetic manner, like a bard or a poetry slammer. Russell Hoban was the author of A Bargain for Frances, A Baby Sister for Frances, Best Friends for Frances, A Birthday for Frances, and Bread and Jam for Frances, all illustrated by Lillian Hoban.

Author Russell Hoban first wrote about Frances the badger in 1960’s Bedtime for Frances, with illustrations by Garth Williams. Join the generations of families that have laughed along as Frances sings "Jam on biscuits, jam on bread, Jam is the thing I like most, Jam is sticky, jam is sweet, Jam is tasty, jam's a treat--raspberry, strawberry, gooseberry, I'm very FOND. Hoban describes Frances's classmate, Albert, eating his delicious, balanced, varied and interesting lunch bite by bite, as Frances wistfully looks on over her bread and jam. While I thing the moral of the story is a good one, I believe the story could have been shortened quite a bit and still convey the same message as effectively.

Then he sprinkled more salt on the egg and went around again… He ate his bunch of grapes and his tangerine…He set the cup custard in the middle of the napkin on his desk… He shut his lunch box, put it back inside his desk, and sighed. This endearing story of how Frances faces unlimited bread and jam is a classic that will continue to be gobbled up by children, picky eaters, and parents everywhere. Expressive, pastel-colored drawings and a simple, repetitive text convey the story of Teddy, who longs to have a pet of his own.
