Description

You can use those parts on the poly hive, whether that's a wooden brood box, wooden super, or any other wooden item. The 14x12 Pent Garden Shed is constructed by our team of expert craftsmen using only the highest quality timber. The shed roof comes as standard with 11mm oriented strand board and is covered in Granite Grey Mineral Slate Ultrapol SBS Polyester Mineral Roofing Felt, and is finished off with matching fascias. I wouldn't put the national brood over the 14x12 and QE though as there is a good chance they will then use it as a super and start filling it with nectar, which is ok if you want to use it as a super.

I feel my bees over-winter better on a single brood and with OMFs, they have more space to retreat from any severe weather conditions than if a single standard brood only. The cladding on this shed is Pressure Treated (Tanalised) 25mm (planed to to a 20mm finish) specially designed rebated shiplap. I inspect the uppermost box for swarming weekly, because they do the queen cells in top most brood box if they do them. Our new feeder design also features a removable plug, which can provide access to fondant placed inside the feeder. I'm wondering if life might be easier to switch from double brood to 14x12 because of the reduced work when inspecting and I'm not really completely convinced that my colonies really need the volume of a double brood box. It's not uncommon around here to run brood and a half, but I can't help feeling that's the most awkward of all possible options. Some of our sheds may require guttering due to the large amount of water falling to the rear panel that may cause water to soak into the unit. Please do not attempt to contact the carrier as we are able to deal with this more quickly and efficiently.

Bees will generally build comb where you don't want it - under the deep frames - and you still have to get rid of them at some time which is why I would prefer to get the job done early as a Baily comb exchange rather than have shallower frames in the hive for some time. Please note - All of our products must be installed on a level solid base, the usual but not limited to methods are either concrete, paving slabs (flags), a wooden frame. This DOES make a difference to uptake as otherwise it will cool down overnight and won't be taken down so quickly. If not shifting hives about weight should be too much of an issue - a frame of brood doesnt weigh much. I found (and more importantly so did one of my colonies) the space on a single standard not enough for both the early year population explosion and storing food for over wintering. I did try them for a couple of years and decided against and prefer the management of 2 Nationals (or WBC's for that matter).

At any point after assembly the building has been in contact with any trees, plants or exterior walls which could allow moisture to penetrate the timber. Then you need to make sure any extractor can take that size of frame, they will cost a bit more, but there are some advantages. The complete brood body comes with 11 Hoffman self spacing frames, premier wired foundation, dummy board, metal runners, nails and instructions. The brood area is about half as much again as the standard National hive and is therefore adequate for a prolific colony. Also having just moved some double brood colonies I can't deny that they're pretty heavy, even in polystyrene.

These are a great size especially if you have a WBC and are looking for more brood space than the British Standard National allows. Our craftsmen take huge pride in the quality of all our products and everything has to meet their exacting standards. This inspired us to develop a new higher density polystyrene nuc box that has more than 1 basic purpose. We are proud to be the leading craftsmen of handmade beehives, using a combination of tried and tested techniques and exciting new innovations to offer a complete range of beekeeping equipment. We work very closing with the NBU (National Bee Unit) and APHA (Animal and Plant Agency) to guarantee you disease free bees that are a pleasure to handle. This simple yet effective concept allows beekeepers to easily create self-sustaining mating nucs that are from a standardised national frame design. Our new 6 frame nuc doubles up as a 2-way mating nuc, the feeder has also been designed to be suitable for liquid sugar and solid fondant.
