I don’t love it as much as Magie Noire, which is my other 70s strange/witchy perfume that I absolutely love. but you *are* right in suggesting that it is a masterpiece that warrants wearing by anyone at any time. Poi compare l'immagine di un mazzo di rose e fiori secchi poggiati su un tavolino antico, all'interno di una casa di campagna dell'800. I've tried the "spray and walk through" method and even then, it settles on your hair and doesn't go away.

However AE is such a distinctive and utterly unique fragrance, I think if there were any major reformulations more people would have taken note and complained, as they have with other Lauder classics. YSL Kouros is an example of a vintage frag that is still strong, so im not being a hater on reformulations in general here. Honestly I LOVE chypre fragrances and I find this TOTALLY unisex but haven't owned a bottle in YEARS.The juice still contains real oakmoss, there is a *long* list of ingredients in the box (as it's the case after reformulations), and it's made in Switzerland if that matters. The modern version has a bit more of a masculine leather quality and the powdery sandalwood-patchouli drydown feels incomplete and lacking in beauty, depth, and charm to me compared to the earlier rosy version. This has ENORMOUS scent projection on opening spray, to the point I had to wash some off and open the windows, it is just far too headache-inducingly overbearing! This large bottle I now possess might serve as a body spray, even, to be topped with precious drops from a vintage bottle, turned brown with age. I duscovered this fragance while living in Europe in 1980 and since then, it has been my signature frangance.

I know that your tastes change as you get older, but I've never been a rose person, and this sweet, slightly spicy, warm scent screams ROSE! While it is not a personal favourite chypre (that honour goes to Jubilation 25 - AE is slightly too sweet for my taste), it is an undeniable masterpiece. She just sits on her perfect porch in her once accessible, but now unaffordable home, sipping her herbal tea to Tori Amos, thanking Gaia for the strength to be present today. It is well balanced in its elements of herbacity, which encompass the smells of earthyness/dirt, grassiness, medicinal herbs or herbs for drinking as tea. There's something disgusting and wonderful about this perfume, it's so unbelievably sharp and herbal in the opening, like chewing on bitter dried oakmoss, but at the same time it's addicting? She sat with largely superficial composure, leafing through a Sylvia Plath book surrounded by flowers, dirt and dry leaves. My mother-in-law is a very elegant lady with great taste in everything so if she has given it a thumbs up that's good enough for me.

Imagine TF's White Patchouli, but with the patchouli left, it is that wavelength of patchouli; Crisp, clean, cold, unforgiving, just how I like a patch to be.Perhaps chamomile, which I think often smells astringent when used in perfume, but I'm not sure if that's the marigold. The beautiful yellow bottle this comes in also typifies the design of that era (although oddly this was not the original bottle). On first spray (forearm and wrist), the most prominent notes I'm getting are the chamomile and Oakmoss. It's not so usual to smell it anymore going out and I noticed that it had disappered from my Clinique counter.

Aromatics is a fragrance that has always dried down very differently when sprayed on clothing versus on skin. Friends who travel to India and Morocco often have complimented me several times on it, asking if I'm wearing Chanel Nº5. The oakmoss of the base is in great condition in the current formulation, and is accompanied by a showstopping patchouli. But for anyone who likes the deep enchantment of the darkest green in a shaded forest, the quiet glint of midges buzzing in a slice of golden light in an almost quiet greenwood.I have both the vintage and current formulations and I can only detect a small difference and it’s mainly in the strength upon first application.
