I quite liked the characters, they had their own personalities and were certainly not the normal bunch of personalities for a friend group in a kids book! David Owen had a great skill for creating rounded realistic young characters in his YA fiction, a talent that has continued in this, his first book for children. Unfortunately, I feel like the ocean messaging overshadowed the b-plot around Bridget and her goals and the messaging that I loved with that.

Join Alex Neptune in the second instalment in an epic fantasy adventure series perfect for fans of Percy Jackson and Dragon Realm. Something magical happens when a reader discovers Percy Jackson for the first time, and this is the book series that will give you that same feeling all over again! Jej pierwsza kwestia - "Nawet majki mam mokre" po brodzeniu w wodzie na plaży, to jedynie zwiastun tego, co jeszcze śmiesznego ta mała jeszcze powie.

Took me a week to finish such a short book😭 I am a proud middle grade enjoyer and I felt like changing up my reading a little but this was just, so flat. Charming and witty with an important ecological message, this is packed with quirky characters and action. Haven's waters have become polluted and unswimable, making it tough for businesses to survive in Haven.

Much of this lies in the rich local legends, about a pirate and a dragon and their battle across the bay. It was written as a wild animal that could understand animals and protect the ocean, yet it never acted like a proper dragon, and let mercy be its downfall. Things going wrong add to the a reader's excitement, all while an environmental string weaves through the story - The ocean environment has been spoiled for financial gain of a few.Our team is made up of book lovers who are dedicated to sourcing and providing the best books for kids. This was followed by The Fallen Children (May 2017, Atom, Little, Brown), which, through a clever, contemporary YA reinterpretation of John Wyndham’s classic The Midwich Cookoos. After battling storms, electric eels and an army of angry crabs, Alex realises that the only way he and his team can save the dragon and all their ocean friends is by going inside the dragon. Historia z tej książki jest bardzo prosta, schematyczna i przewidywalna, ale za to niezwykle komfortowa, co właśnie dla młodszych czytelników często jest najcenniejsze.

The connection between Alex and the water dragon was precious and because we know there’s going to be a sequel I hope to see that develop and it would be awesome if they got a name. In each book, we see him embark on a new adventure with his found family, made up of his tech-genius best friend Zoey, legend-lover Anil, a sharp-shooting octopus, four acrobatic otters and a thieving seagull.

Their exclusive edition has a wonderful greeny sprayed and stencilled edge with octopus arms on it (they aren’t tentacles - right David? tego nie mogę powiedzieć ;) kryje się przekaz o ratowaniu środowiska i dbaniu o morza, oceany i wszystko to, co kryje się pod powierzchnią. Alex Neptune is his first series for younger readers, born of his love for nail-biting heists, fantastical monsters and heartfelt friendships. At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. The book would be perfect to explore themes such as marine life, plastic pollution, littering and caring for our marine life.

Alex’s big sister Bridget was giving Luisa from Encanto vibes and I think might have been my fave character – super determined. I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience. Other ones included misogyny, nepotism, political corruption, disdain of elitists, and friend jealousy. The marauders are hunting for the missing egg of the elusive water dragon - and Alex is determined to reach it first to stop them stealing its power. I’m not rating this book incase it was really just a case of me not being the target audience, but it was max a 2 star read for me. Alex Neptune, Pirate Hunter casts you off on a brilliant adventure that brims with peril, bravery and humour - I loved it!
