I can't see the silver, but that may not matter with all the detail. The copper looks really neat, but at certain angles it looks very dark -- almost brown. So, I'm on the fence with that one. The last is the silver: I dry fit the saucer a few times and figured out what needed to be removed to allow it to close all the way I got there in the end. It's not perfect, but I think it will not be noticeable unless you really look Since the last time I was here I attached the saucer section. I did it in a strange way where I attached the bottom half to the primary hull and then attached the top half.

Clear parts are provided for running lights, domes on the primary hull, and the Bussard collectors on the warp-engine nacelles. The lighting set offers the option of lighting the intercooler grilles on the warp engines’ inboard sides and the impulse engines. These were intended for the filming model but ended up cut from the budget. It's been a couple of years since I've done some sci fi modelling and have just a few Star Trek models in the stash...

Moving on... Had to mask for the "medium gray", which I used RAF medium sea gray for. When I do this again, I will paint sub assemblies before final assembly -- this was quite a pain! Last Monday and Tuesday night I put the finishing touches on the Botany Bay. I had a very thin mixture of Mr. Color's propeller brown and just dusted it randomly around the surface of the model. After that, I gloss coated, and put on a fairly dirty wash. When that dried I gave it a dull coat and it was finished. The sensor dish and its housing are molded in copper, and the windows are supplied in clear, white, and dark-tinted plastic. The latter can be combined to replicate the lit and unlit windows seen on the show’s miniature.

We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons: Polar Lights answered the call with a 1/350 kit, and it’s pulled out all the stops to create a model that builds well and looks awesome — the finished ship is 32" long. As if that’s not enough, the company has several aftermarket sets to finish your starship as you like. I added the lighting set. Now came the fun part, adding the wallpaper Aztec decals. This was the first time I’ve used decals for Aztec paneling; in the past, I’ve used masks and painted the pattern. That said, I was impressed with the Polar Lights decals. They are thin with no excess clear film. But they are strong and did not stretch. Rather than being solid, the panel decals, tint the base color. Maneuvering the larger decals can be difficult and water or Microscale Micro Set helped keep them mobile as I positioned them. A wet finger or large damp brush is helpful in removing any wrinkles. Here's the one we worked on. It was a purely snap together build with no seam filling or anything like that because he was 7 and I wanted it to be fun for him.
