Description

Along the way he discovers many other types of vegetables and learns that he likes more than just French fries.

One day Grandpa sets him a challenge that helps him to learn to try new foods from the vegetable patch and Oliver is surprised by what he finds out. My 7 year old boy got this book for doing his summer project book review and to learn about green vegetables! Vivian French is the author of over two hundred books, including the wildly popular series Tales from the Five Kingdoms. So, I decided to give this book a try, knowing that it would be lobbying for kids to eat their vegetables. Oliver insists that he only eats chips, so his grandfather tells him to find the potatoes to make these.

A delightful read that introduces days of the week and teaches young children about healthy eating – the perfect story for parents with fussy eaters. She has won many awards for her books, and is regularly invited to festivals including Cheltenham and the Edinburgh International Book Festival. The following is an overview of common plant parts divided into two categories: vegetative and reproductive.

This is the third Oliver book apparently, although the first one I have read, not that it matters with these books. Small taste sessions after each new vegetable are a must and it really encourage children to become curious about new and exciting vegetables. We have been learning all about healthy and unhealthy foods, and about the importance of a healthy and balanced diet.Vivian French's colourful book Oliver's Vegetables is a fantastic story to read aloud with your class. Use observations to describe patterns of what plants and animals (including humans) need to survive.

I was asked to read this book by children aged 3 - 4, who found the story very funny due to Oliver only liking chips to eat.I remember them picking gooseberries in my in-laws' garden; it didn't persuade them to eat the gooseberry crumble! One day Oliver goes to his grandparents’ house – where they grow their own vegetables -to the disgust of Oliver, who insists ‘I don’t eat vegetables! Grandpa challenges Oliver to find potatoes in the ground so they can make chips, but if he finds another vegetable instead, he has to eat it.
