Transparent Mepitel One is an exciting new development in the quest to minimise interruptions to healing. It can be applied together with Mesorb ®; or for high-exuding wounds with Mextra ® Superabsorbent; with tubular fixation such Tubifast ® 2-Way Stretch ® or under compression bandages. Because Mepitel ® One can remain in place for up to 14 days, the wound bed is left undisturbed, further minimising pain and discomfort from more frequent dressing changes and supporting undisturbed healing (Collin, 2009; Edwards and Mason, 2013; Patton et al, 2013; David et al, 2018). Mepitel prevents the outer dressing from sticking to the wound and therefore minimises trauma and pain associated with dressing changes. It's designed to mould softly to skin without sticking to the moist wound – so you can remove it with minimal risk of damaging the wound or skin .

One cause of wound pain can be attributed to dressing changes and is largely preventable (Brown, 2014). Fixation tapes and devices can be fixated on top of the Mepitel Film product, the Mepitel Film is than used as a protective Landing Zone for the fixation tape. Mepitel One has been developed as a highly transparent wound contact layer with Safetac on the wound contact surface alone; this makes it easy to apply without sticking to gloves, and allows it to be used with a choice of secondary dressings. Note: If Mepitel One is used on Epidermolysis Bullosa patients, employ extra surveillance at dressing changes. Silicone-coated dressings, such as Mepitel ® One with Safetac ® technology, can overcome the problems of adherence to the wound and damage to the surrounding skin (White, 2005; White, 2008) resulting in minimal pain for patients. The condition of the peri-wound skin was generally healthy although mild maceration developed around one of the wounds.

When Mepitel is used on burns treated with meshed grafts or after facial resurfacing imprints can occur if the product is not used properly. Since the launch of Mepitel ® in 1989, there has been a considerable amount of clinical evidence to support its use, beginning with the first randomised study comparing the efficiency of Mepitel ® with silver sulfadiazine in children with partial thickness scalds (Gotschall et al, 1998). Mepitel can remain in place for up to 14 days which allows undisturbed wound healing when used in conjunction with a simple secondary pad, such as Mesorb. Indicated for a wide range of wounds, such as skin tears, skin abrasions, surgical incisions, second degree burns, blistering, lacerations, partial and full thickness grafts, diabetic ulcers, and venous and arterial ulcers.
