It was one of the great films of the 90s that took a hard look at growing up that crime ridden culture that wasn’t an action movie, nor a sappy imagining of the era. maybe it's the Def Jam label's habit of putting that s-shaped turntable tonearm graphic on their records back in the day of Public Enemy, The Beastie Boys, LL Cool J or MC Shan, or the way vinyl just "goes" with the music from that era. Being the cinematographer for Spike Lee director Ernest Dickenson crashed onto the scene with a stunning debut 25 years ago in the form of Juice, a powerful drama about 4 kids growing up in the hood, but soon falling apart as violence and weapons enter their young world.

That’s made clear by trying to show the issues shared among the friends and conflict found between them and other groups, let alone the police. This seems to be one of those mixed discs - some say it has many flaws, and some, like the site, say it’s a pretty good upgrade over the BD. With this in mind, while the film plays like a fascinating portrayal of culture in Harlem in the early 90s, the switch up midway through the movie turns Juice into something of a genre picture. years on this film still brings the full weight and impact of its story to the screen - even if I wish Dickerson was allowed to present his original unaltered ending. While giving a look into a lifestyle, it also acts as a pretty tense hybrid of character drama and thriller at the same time.A new DTS HD Master Audio soundtrack has been added for this inaugural Blu-ray and it’s a perfect compliment to the jazzy, hip hop soundtrack that plays throughout. Lots of the more natural stuff like the pavement, wood panels and more have a very nice lifelike rustic touch to them as well. The audio and video are top notch and the assortment of supplements, a few new, only add to the allure. Black levels are excellent as well, although it sometimes looks a bit murky in the shadow department.

Similar to something like Do the Right Thing, just hanging out with these characters is quite engaging, but there is the feel of societal commentary going on. A tale of four friends determined to make some money on the harsh streets of Harlem and featuring an outstanding soundtrack by hip-hop heroes Eric B and Rakim, Cypress Hill, EPMD, Big Daddy Kane and many more. With the help of producer David Heyman (the Harry Potter series), this provided an outlet for some very young talent. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. He’s very articulate and evidently surrounded himself with top notch talent, most of whom he knew personally. There are so many albums I've forgotten about like your MC Shy D- Comin' Correct in '88 album which I had on cassette. The image was always a bit grungy to mimic the street elements of the film, but things like jackets, or green painted walls really do look impressive.

Dickerson showcases a familiarity with his collaborator in terms of the voice of this film and the look and punch of the characters. Underneath all of the 90s hip hop lingo, and bad 90s hairdos and cheesy gang signs, it’s a bleak tale of what happens when you lose all hope, as well as a harsh condemnation of the alluring nature of power on the street. there's something so magical about old-school hip hop like this on the vinyl format, especially the Def Jam label releases with their s-shaped tonearm graphics on the record labels. This seems fitting to the old school rap discussion but I just saw that they released a 25th anniversary edition to Ice Cube's iconic album Death Certificate with 3 previously unreleased tracks. AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM The DC Super Hero’s Action-Packed Adventure Debuts on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on March 12th! Its a role someone with his inexperience could have sullied up the movie with, but Tupac absolutely slays. Hours after a brief but passionate debate about whether to get involved for a cut of the heist (they sit this one out), the guys learn that Blizzard has been shot dead by police. However, he takes things to another level in terms of an action prowess and demonstrating levels of suspense not yet adventured into at the time with the canon of Spike Lee.

This UHD release of Juice includes all of the extras from the 2016 Blu-ray sans the still photo gallery. The colors are vibrant, the element is clean and sharp, and there is nothing resembling a serious concern. At times, the newfound clarity makes some of the parts with Khalil seem like a stage play, but that's why 2Pac and Epps were always the standouts. Low Frequency Extension: There’s an effective enough boom here form the music and the loud gunshots to feel a good rumble throughout the viewing space to accurate levels.Again, this isn’t the worst issue and it’s barely noticeable unless you’re really looking for it, nonetheless, it’s an issue to kick this otherwise perfect transfer for.
