Description

The story centers around Morgan rebuilding her life in her old home with her mother and grandmother as she settles into a new romantic relationship with Miles Jameson. She bought a small house in the perfect neighborhood outside of Baltimore, living with a friend and working two jobs to make ends meet. She hopes that moving back to a small town where she can feel safe will help her to put the horror of that day behind her but, as Morgan soon discovers, sometimes your past just doesn't want to let you go.

But things change when Morgan comes home to find Nina murdered, and finds out the man named Luke is not who she thought he was. Former Army brat Morgan Albright has finally planted roots in a friendly neighborhood near Baltimore. Her books I like to sprinkle in my reading here and there and this one didn’t read like a regular NR book.

La historia está orientada al desarrollo de personajes, vínculos familiares, proyectos laborales y relaciones amorosas. The inclusion of family in Identity showcases Morgan's strong connection to her roots even as she rebuilds her life and learns to trust her own judgment and another man again. This book kind of has that feel - Morgan is just living her life when something horrible happens to her and the story becomes how she picks up her life in spite of this awful event (this is a theme that Nora Roberts has written in the past, and each time it's always slightly different and unique, which I love). Identity is unique and highly detailed, plus she ties in plenty of surprises that completely had me captivated. This book is phenomenal, the little touches she is so good at really stick, like the loan shark bit, I keep thinking about it and smiling, pure unadulterated genius! When Morgan meets a new man named Luke, she feels intrigued by him, but is not ready to move things much faster than a few dates/hang outs. On the heels of that the FBI inform her that Luke is a psychopathic seral killer and that he has wiped her out financially. Roberts shows Gavin’s slow descent into obsession and madness as the inverse of Morgan’s healing journey back to herself and her community. After a peripatetic childhood, 25-year-old Morgan Albright has finally made a home for herself in a quiet suburb of Baltimore.

Overall, this was a fun and captivating new read by the incomparable Nora Roberts and one that should go over a treat with all romantic suspense fans.

Basic Plot: girl gets tricked by a man who steals her identity and murders her friend, she moves in with her mom and grandma, falls in love with another man, psychopath comes back after her. Roberts switches between Morgan’s point of view and those of the killer and his FBI pursuers to successful enough effect, but there’s a whole lot of narrative bloat in the form of inconsequential dialogue and plot repetition. Meanwhile readers are treated to Morgan’s reconnection with her family and the rebuilding of her life.
