If you’re using Serato DJ Pro instead of rekordbox, then Scratch Bank can be used to trigger samples through the performance pads. Turn on Jog Cutter and simply move the jog wheel to apply a professional-sounding scratch effect to the last Hot Cue or playback position you used on that deck. In the new Merge FX section in rekordbox (PC/Mac), you can customize each effect type and the samples used in each pattern to create your own variations.

Energetic and intuitive performances come with ease, thanks to the layout, inclusion of full-sized jog wheels and brand-new Jog Cutter feature on the DDJ FLX6. In total, if rekordbox is the selected music software management system then there are eight Merge FX pattern presets (this reduces to four if Serato DJ Pro is in use), and everything is customisable. You can effortlessly change from hip-hop to house, from rock to EDM, or between any other styles you want to play.There are ten scratch patterns to select and can be switched by moving the play head position displayed on the jog wheels on-jog display. These customisable banks allow you to load build and release FX and samples which can then be used to create a dramatic lift before dropping the next track. Its full-size jog wheels now feature a graphite colour plus a metallic texture on top and a rubberized coating on the outer ring for improved playability. The jog wheel is divided into 6 segments and you can grab the track playing, or a sample if preferred, and then move the platter backwards and forwards in time for instant scratch patterns. Now, considering that I also play guitar, I do have a soundcard (behringer UMC204HD) which I might use to route the audio output.

Just days after the launch of the new two-channel DDJ-FLX4 controller, Pioneer have announced an upgrade to the larger model in the versatile FLX range. There are 10 different scratch patterns and you can switch from one to another by simply moving the playhead position, shown on the jog wheel’s display, to point toward the angle for the scratch you want to use.

The best thing about this new feature is users who are new to scratching and have never scratched before can take full advantage of it.

The software options for the controller is flexible as the controller’s DJ Performance functions can be unlocked with either rekordbox or Serato DJ Pro.

The Pioneer DDJ-FLX6 is a 4-channel DJ Controller that boasts new features, a unique style, fresh looking layout, full-sized jog-wheels, use of pro-sounding scratch effects, and the ability to mix tracks from different genres effortlessly.

One Merge FX is made up of four categories Build FX, Build Sample, Release FX and Drop Sample, which include 41 types of effects, all of which can be united to create over 9,000 different patterns. Sample Scratch is a brand-new pad mode in rekordbox which enables you to choose sounds you’ve assigned to the sampler and load them onto the decks.

The four-channel DDJ-FLX6 is to be replaced by the FLX6-GT, the GT apparently standing for Graphite in reference to the new colour scheme. The new unit adds support for VirtualDJ (license available separately), and retains free compatibility with rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro.
