Simulating industry practice, in the Introduction to Industries Practice unit you’ll have the opportunity to work as part of a collaborative textiles and fashion design team to co-create a ‘capsule collection’, alongside building an individual textiles range for an industry audience.

In do-it-yourself projects, Jessica first helpfully explains the basics of materials; she teaches you how to pick the right fabric, what tools to use, where to source materials, what types of wire or beads to use and terminology. To achieve this, we are working to embed UAL’s Principles for Climate, Social and Racial Justice into the course. Through the wider collection his motifs evolved and morphed, creating whole aesthetic transformations based on the same fundamental DNA. Central St Martin’s graduate Emilio de la Morena may be best known for his structured cocktail dresses but this collection showed off his ability to create soft and stylish separates. This collection was as varied as it was polished, and the sheer breadth of looks that made their way down the catwalk demonstrated extreme versatility. The dress we’ve selected features a burst of jet black feathers through a festival of baby blue and yellow embroidered flowers. I truly believe Embroidery magazine has a vital role to play in the fashion and textiles world, not only to keep this craft alive, but to educate, inspire and to encourage its evolution. Customising Clothes with Embroidery is a great book of projects and ideas for upcycling your clothes and creating something unique.

New creative environments– You will be introduced to new ways of seeing to push your creativity as a designer and provide fresh eyes to the world around you. The book will cover all skill levels - from easy patches using straight lines, to big pieces with lots of colour and shading for maximum impact and detail! Mabbott shines in the free-motion stitch projects, in which designs are done directly onto clothing instead of patches: the simple line-drawn flowers against white blouses are eye-catching and original. As mentioned above, you can also wash your embroidery in a delicates bag if you are concerned about the stitching getting damaged by other items in the wash. The Textiles and Creative Industries Experience unit will increase your awareness of the industry, and opportunities with the creative industries.

We are a small organisation of embroidery specialists with experience in various design fields which includes hand embroidery, digital embroidery design, costume, ceremonial, fashion and art. Each tutorial includes a bullet list of materials in a sidebar, suggested skill level, step-by-step direction, and clear colour process photos of the project. It was an incredibly rewarding experience working with the team of artisans at SEP - their talent far surpassed my expectations.
