If you are someone who cares about audio quality deeply, you'll want a pair of earphones/IEMs like these. It appears like each drum beat and thump take their own sweet time in delivering the meaty-impact before moving to the next beat. So this is a big part of the ER2’s weakness overall (especially with the ER2SE) – a lack of fun factor. These earphones are perfectly in tune with the newest innovations in music players that support a 3.

The acoustic resonance and horn effects of the ear change a flat audio signal entering the open ear into sound with a (2700 Hz) high-frequency boost, which is the same response heard at the eardrum in a typical ear. I don't think this was a case of the bass overwhelming the rest of the FR or anything, and it was slight enough that it could have just been my ears on those days.I know the forum favorite is going to be the XR with its more pronounced bass, but I actually preferred the SE.

It's dry, as mentioned above, with adequate but generally unremarkable impact paired with surprisingly nice delineation on fast bass solos; it's remarkably easy to follow basslines during busier passages in a song. I have not worn them for more than a couple of hours at a time but had no discomfort during those sessions. If you’re someone who is looking to listen to music without worrying too much about the technicalities, then these are the perfect fit for you. Some people may find it lacking, unenergetic, or dry, especially for those people who loves elevated presence. He's a big fan of tube amps and custom inear monitors and has published hundreds of product reviews over the years. Being the cheapest ETYs the retail package is underwhelming and there should be more tips to try especially double flanged ones especially considering that the fit makes it or breaks it for most folks trying ETYs.

He points out a number of important subtleties that can get overlooked, and explains the difficulties (impossibilities? Please note that the following impressions are based on using them with the Shure eartips with insertion of a normal depth – somewhere between deep and shallow. If you’re someone who usually switches between a variety of devices with different OS, then these are suited for you. Also telling L/R ch by feel is getting to be habitual— it's much easier to get proper channels in relatively quickly without looking. Etymotic isn’t playing around: it takes audio seriously and has mastered the art of the noise-isolation earphone.

I hear it as being a bit recessed lower down after the upper midrange bump but having some tizz in the mid-high frequencies that make hi hats sound thin and splashy, almost unnaturally bodiless.

The birdsong at the beginning of TSwift+Bon Iver's exile was pushed way back to the point where I had to strain to hear them even at somewhat higher than typical-of-me SPLs. I was never able to get a fit I felt comfortable with, and always felt awkward and discomfort from having them so deep in.

The Aurisonics Rocket is a forgotten IEM that I love aside from the slightly annoying fit and microphonic cable. It does have more treble energy than the ER2SE, but it’s not bright, exactly, nor is it much more fatiguing.
