Description

It´s the little details that make a work of music, art, or literature special and the starring killer really understands the importance of good staging with a sudden plot twist and the big aha tada moment. Not enough that the exhibition pieces are already impressive, there is even a physical meta level with hidden messages Hunter has to find to be able to fully enjoy and appreciate the genius of the artist. If you have not met Detective Robert Hunter before, now is the time, he is a genius Detective, super brainy and has the special skill of seeing the psychological element in any murder, profiling and second guessing the killer. All of the books featuring him are fantastic, I have read a few now. He works with his partner Andy Garcia and both are very likeable and tangible characters. Robert Hunter is a loner, I feel sad for him at times, but on the job he is outstanding and really likeable. Somewhat flawed yes, but outstanding.

Captain Bolter had forgotten all about the new detective who was supposed to be starting today. Some sort of prodigy kid with a PhD in Criminal Behavior Psychology, who, according to what the captain had been told, had turned down a position with the FBI to join the LAPD. The most annoying element was that everyone kept talking to themselves. Again, this felt lazy and like tell-don't-show. Characters would speak out their frustration even though it felt weird and unnatural. Yes, it succeeded in telling the reader the character's emotions or opinion but I'd much rather Hunter punched a wall so we infer his frustration, rather than him sitting at a computer alone saying, "I am very frustrated." etc. Detective Robert Hunter has long been a valuable member of the Ultra Violent Crime division of LAPD Homicide, investigating the most heinous crimes committed. While this may be the case, he has always seen it eat away at his inner self, which leaves Hunter to wonder how much energy he has left.

Again, the big showdown opens up the question of where justice ends and vigilantism begins, if people are legitimized to kill if the law doesn´t help them after misjudgment and injustice, if it´s ok to switch from victim or the one left behind alone to the big avenger. After reading until the 8th installment I know by now how many victims there are gonna be, how Hunter will solve the case and that he will go and face the killer on his own. I would like a surprise like a victim gets away and spoils the killer's plans, Hunter's partner is the one that solves the case or is the one facing the killer in the end or anything that will be different. It was also released by the Simon and Schuster publishers in the year 2010. The main plot of this book features the lead characters in the form of Robert Hunter, Claire Anderson, Ian Hopkins, Barbara Blake, Carlos Garcia, Jonathan Winston, and Mike Brindle, etc. The most interesting character I encountered in The caller was Mr.J and I wouldn't mind if he got to the murderer first and spared me from yet another installment the Hunter vs. The killer trope. I even found his storyline and investigation far more interesting than the one the two detectives lead. Within days a new body surfaces. Like the previous victim, she's also been stitched shut and something has been left inside her. Something as ingenious as it is grotesque. And the killer isn't done yet, not by a long shot.

Do you believe the Devil exists, Detective?’ the officer at the end of the line asks. ‘Because if you don’t… I’m sure you will once you get here.’ A case that will test him to the limit – you would be emotionally, mentally, and physically drained and that’s just the reader. Even a seasoned detective like Robert Hunter would need psychiatric help after solving a case of this magnitude and level of brutality.Commander Barbara Blake is brought in to help with the case when they dig further into the identity of the girls they find that all of them are artists of some sort, another body is found but the calling card has changed then Commander Blake disappears this time Hunter will stop at nothing until he finds her what happens from here on is a cat & mouse game between the perp & Hunter. As expected this novel was full to the brim with sadism, blood and gore. The killer was obsessively cruel and I had my nose wrinkled in disgust throughout quite a lot of the novel. But gore alone does not a good crime novel make.

The mysterious caller however doesn't want Hunter to just watch, but rather participate in an act where refusing is not an option.

Publication Order of Robert Hunter Books

That being said, Genesis, the 12th book in the Robert Hunter series, was as deliciously good and chilling as its predecessors. Before I wanted to study animal care I liked the idea of being a Homicide detective or CSI, now I’m glad I’m not because I have nothing but respect for the men and women that have that profession. No therapist in the world could help with the horrors they must see and they have more courage and guts than most. This case proves to be a recurring and horrific nightmare for Detective Robert Hunter as he is asked to investigate the sadistic torturing and murder of the young woman. The crime scene showed that the young woman was stripped naked and was strung from parallel posts.
