The series has thrown one major twist after another at its readers, but ultimately that’s what everything comes down to. To give some credit to King, the mystery aspect of the series was great (not as bloated as with Human Target). Whilst much of the narrative and the art works, some parts do become a little bore and chore before it manages to pick itself back up.

I mentioned earlier that the Wayne’s “revitalization” project ignores or even actively harms the people living in the city’s poorer South Side, but what the story is very emphatic on pointing out is that the people who live there are almost all black.

I'm not sure if it was the colorist or just how suited he is for this kind of narrative, but his work here looks night and day compared to other stuff I've seen him do.

They present a noble and dignified exterior to the public, Slam quickly learns that it’s all a façade. Tom King · Phil Hester Gotham City: Year One (Volume 1) was a limited series, published by DC Comics. This story has far more in common with a Billy Wilder movie than say Chinatown, but it works very well. Apesar de Gotham City: Ano Um ser escrita por Tom King, escritor de quadrinhos badalado dos últimos anos, não vi nenhuma comoção a respeito da minissérie por aí. Private Investigator Sam "Slam" Bradley discovers that the perpetrator of Helen's kidnap isn't a disaffected South Gotham resident, as everyone assumed, but someone inside Wayne Manor.

The reality of the system which Slam chose to be a part of becomes unavoidable when he finds his brother’s criminal records at the station. It’s slightly reminiscent of the comic art from the 60s when this is set while still maintaining a modern flair. It's great that the author includes a warning textbox to prepare everyone for the horrendous things going on in this comic. It’s worth noting that while it is a dive into Gotham’s past, it will seemingly also be making some alterations to that past.True to form, King does what King does best when he's blatantly copying other stories or real-world incidents, and this first issue is no exception. However, when you apply those deconstructions the other way, it diminishes the work being used as context.
