Whether you use headphones or have your device connected directly to your hi-fi, the DragonFly Black simply offers a massive improvement in sound quality. I own the Beyerdynamic 880 pro and 770 pro and have to agree with you - the synergy (dragonfly black + LG V30/V40 + Qobuz through UAPP + beyers) is unbelievable. The DAC chips we’ve selected are remarkably powerful and sophisticated, yet we’ve intentionally limited DragonFly’s processing capabilities to 24-bit/96kHz resolution.

I’m starting to feel that this is unavoidable, these tiny DACs are meant to be taken out of my backpack in the morning, stay on my work desk till 6pm and stay in my backpack for the rest of the day. To verify that your Android device complies with isochronous USB audio, download and run USB Host Check. Despite Android’s support of USB audio output, there are still hardware manufacturers that do not completely adhere to the USB audio class specification. Whether you’re listening to Spotify, YouTube, Tidal, ripped CDs, or state-of-the-art high-resolution files, DragonFly will deliver a more emotionally compelling and enjoyable experience.

The 45 ohm impedance of the Etymotics helps mitigate this even with noisier sources, but at normal volume levels, even with no music playing, there’s no audible hiss here at all. The HD660S are marginally easier to drive, with only a slight increase in sensitivity - but having half the impedance of the HD6XX/HD650 means the Dragonfly Black can push further before running out of voltage; this is immediately apparent when they’re compared back-to-back. While DragonFly can natively decode resolutions up to 24-bit/96kHz, it can play any file type regardless of resolution, from MP3 to MQA and Hi-Res. Drawing 77% less current than the original DragonFly`s micro controller, the new Microchip MX micro controller enables true compatibility with Apple and Android smartphones and tablets. Of course the (DragonFly) Black brought out the warmth in the HD 25's and the XBA-H1's, my saying "of course" because those are known to have warm sound signatures.

From iOS almost the whole volume range was usable, while still being able to get to a point where it was louder than I would ever listen. When pushed into too-demanding a load, the response becomes somewhat muted and the raw, sharp, leading edges of percussion, brass and plucked strings can get softened/rounded off. They also mention that it works well with Qobuz subscriptions and that it brings them close to the sound system.Black mainly as a solution for transit and working on-the-go, and noticed an appreciable difference in quality immediately when using DT770 (80 ohm) and Zero Audio Carbo Tenores. Though it is not a night and day upgrade, I do feel that this refinement helps to improve the overall musical landscape greatly: the 1. You can run things usefully louder than you’re likely to want to listen before their presentation starts to come unglued. The initial attack or bite of plucked strings or percussion might be slightly less immediate than more complex converters/amps, but decay and natural reverberation are rendered well. It offers versions and support for both Apple and Windows computers, and even has a remote app to run on your phone or tablet.
