Carrie's work has appeared in many publications, including Bon Appetit, Allrecipes, and Wine Enthusiast. And if you don't want to hand wash your spinner, you can drop this into the dishwasher is safe — as long as you put it on the top rack. All of the models we tested were able to handle five and seven-and-a-half ounces of greens (with varying degrees of success, as we covered above), but not every salad spinner made the cut when we increased the amount to 10 ounces. While all salad spinners should be lightly held in place during use, some of the models we tested wobbled more aggressively than others. Roll them in a slightly damp paper towel and place them in a plastic (or reusable) storage bag—this works for both herbs and lettuce/leafy greens.

Salad spinners will get lettuce almost completely dry–about 90% of the way with a good quality model. Some models that we tested, including the Mueller and Cuisinart salad spinners, had exposed spinning mechanisms on their lids' undersides that resembled the spokes of a wheel. Mass and radius remained relatively consistent between all of the spinners tested and the greatest variable between the products was velocity. Mueller Salad Spinner: An unusual “pulling bar” spin mechanism generated more force than a simple hand crank, but this still ranked toward the bottom of our drying tests. The Prepworks collapsible model promised the best storage solution, but the gains in cabinet space did not make up for the poor performance and cumbersome setup.

Freshly-cleaned lettuce will last longer and experience less wilting if they're rolled up in towels after spinning since the towels will absorb the remaining moisture while keeping the leaves from drying out. The humble salad spinner may seem like an unnecessary kitchen tool, but we beg to differ: It's revolutionary when it comes to yielding crispy, fresh greens. Using half the storage space of a conventional spinner, our collapsible version is a versatile piece of kit. Even though the bowl is half rubber, it looks attractive enough to use for serving, and the large colander is very useful. A COLANDER WITH A TWIST | Use to drain your pasta and rinse your veggies, or twist it into a spinner!

We last tested salad spinners in 2016, when we named the Zyliss Swift Dry Salad Spinner our favorite. She also served as a beauty editor at Refinery29, where she produced beauty editorials featuring makeup artists and hairstylists such as Pat McGrath, Dick Page, Orlando Pita, Sir John, Mario Dedivanovic, and more. In our test with the radicchio, we found the plunger was comfortable to grip, and it only took 10 pumps to completely clean and dry the greens. We and our partners use cookies and similar tech to improve your site experience, show you personalised ads, and learn from your behaviour so we can, for example, recommend products you'll love! We did report some water spots remained, but they were wiped away with a quick rub of a clean, dry hand towel. Similar to other spinners, it cleans greens with a simple process: Just fill with lettuce and water, swish everything around to remove debris, then drain and spin to dry. Across two tests—one featuring lettuce and the other berries—we noted the pump was easy to operate with minimal strength required. Would you hang on to one handle and run in a circle so that the merry-go-round spins along with you?
