With several of Rick Remenders books either just finished or in the process of wrapping up, it is great to see him launching a new series with Andr Lima Arajo.

That brilliant unpredictability continues for the rest of the book so you’re always guessing as to what’s going to happen to our nameless protagonist next and what the point of it all is. Previously, he wrote The Punisher, Uncanny X-Force, Captain America and Uncanny Avengers for Marvel Comics. For those unaware, authors get complimentary copies (known as comps) of the books they make sent by the publisher.

It guides the reader from beginning to end, leaving a feeling of worry with a final bloody footprint. His main character wants to save people who are targeted by darkweb mercenary assassins, and we don't get to find out why in this book. You could also really feel the intensity and emotions of the characters, even without any words attached to them. I’m really enjoying how this book is set out with the multiple panels and the reserved use of dialogue for the protagonist, Sonny. His work at Marvel Comics is the basis for major elements of Avengers: Endgame, Falcon and Winter Soldier, and Deadpool 2.

When an unassuming man stops vicious dark web contract assassins from killing their target, he turns himself into one. Some how our main character, Mr Wen I believe, finds a way on to the dark web and finds where contract killers take jobs.As I said last week , this current batch of pages is a particularly important part of the book, so it feels amazing to be fleshing it out and seeing it come to life. Normally, that would be kind of infuriating, but because this is a Remender book, chances are we'll get more volumes. Maybe one day I’ll sell originals from books, but for now I have all of them, from all books, including this one. I have no issue with this at all, in fact I prefer reading in trade or at least longer form storytelling than 20-odd pages, but from a review perspective I’m going to let this one complete its first arc and then come back for the full thing. There’s a scene during one of his bus rides where he briefly takes his cell phone out and reads an article about an accuser gone missing in a sex trafficking case.

We don’t get many narrative footholds, only oddly placed details and tidbits of information, and most of our knowledge of the protagonist comes from inferring things from his action. The ending was unsettling out of context, and will probably be unsettling in context as well, but that context is going to be necessary to determine whether or not the series ends up in my pull. unanswered questions but it’s the beginning so won’t take off a star for that although usually i would if it’s excessive.

In perhaps a potential meta commentary on where the story is headed, the unassuming preamble that is A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance belies a much more brutal, much more sinister story. In the first act of the issue, our red hoodie friend barely strings more than two words together to form his sentence, and Remender lets Araújo’s visual storytelling carry the bulk of the issue. International products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from local products, including fit, age ratings, and language of product, labeling or instructions. Unfortunately, the plot feels disappointingly thin, lacking the depth needed to sustain the intrigue. Who hasn’t had a day like this: you go visit a wealthy couple only to find them brutally murdered by international assassins at the behest of the billionaire elite - and it’s raining and you don’t have a brolly!
