Description

It's a tradesman's book--a discussion of the nuts and bolts, of the challenges, and of the community. It could be about plumbing or IT development, but it's instead about exorcisms. An Exorcist Explains the Demonic (with Stefano Stimamiglio, translated by Charlotte J. Fasi), 2016. [37]

Russell Crowe portrays Amorth in the 2023 supernatural horror film The Pope's Exorcist, based on the priest's two memoirs. [26] Views [ edit ] Views on yoga [ edit ] Amorth was born May 1, 1925, in Modena, Italy. His family were devout Catholics, though Amorth admitted he would often fall asleep under the pews during mass as a child. Now, Russell Crowe’s new supernatural horror film The Pope’s Exorcist fictionalises Amorth’s exorcism ministry, adding in a centuries-old Vatican cover up for good measure. Directory of Exorcists, Deliverance Counselors, and Investigators". Camelot Warfare Library. Oblates and Missioners of St. Michael. 1996–2017. Archived from the original on 30 June 2018 . Retrieved June 29, 2018. In October 2000, it was reported he had performed over 50,000 exorcisms (which ranged from "a few minutes" to "several hours" in length). [10] In March 2010, he said the number had increased to 70,000. By May 2013, he said he had performed 160,000 exorcisms in the course of his ministry. [11] According to Amorth, each exorcism does not represent a victim of possession, but rather each exorcism is counted as a prayer or ritual alone; some possessed victims required hundreds of exorcisms. [12] [13]an honest (neither exaggerating nor underestimating) description about the nature of demons and demonic activities; In the early 1990s, Amorth established the International Association of Exorcists, becoming its longtime president. The association received Vatican approval in 2014 and now holds a biannual exorcism conference. An Exorcist Explains the Demonic: The Antics of Satan and His Army of Fallen Angels - published on October 20, 2016, by Sophia Press

One, to be clear, I am a spiritual person who finds truth in every religion and spiritual practice. I was raised Catholic and find so many of the Catholic traditions beautiful, meaningful, important, significant, and filled with truth. I also am a yoga teacher, Reiki practitioner, have studied Buddhist meditation, astrology, mythology, and have many personal pagan practices. By those accounts, I suspect this author would happily let me know I was going to hell, despite the fact that my most meaningful spiritual practice is...Amorth, Gabriele (1999). An exorcist tells his story. San Francisco, Calif.: Ignatius Press. ISBN 0-89870-710-2. OCLC 41135836.

I do agree with the other reviewers who think that he contradicts himself a bit by saying "only can be performed with the bishop's approval" in some places and elsewhere "well the bishop is uneducated in this matter so I just went ahead". But I think this goes along with his main theme of "we need more priests and bishops trained in this space" so it's not a complete contradiction.According to The Boston Pilot, Amorth entered into the Congregation of the Society of St. Paul in August 1947 and was ordained a priest less than four years later on January 24, 1951. This book was primarily a repeat of the first one with a little elaboration and some stories. A goodly portion of the book was spent on Father Amorth's opinion of the current state of exorcism within the Catholic church and the causes of evil in the world today. Fr. Gabriele Amorth is the Chief Exorcist of Rome. He has performed hundreds of exorcisms over many years. The stories, of exorcists facilitating exorcisms, all just sounds like... they're just copying each other, without even knowing whether the practice is safe, true, real, beneficial, helpful, healthy, and within Spiritual standards, which is - "In God's word." Should you start to worry about the notion that facts are subjective and wonder if maybe there are alternative explanations for these utterly diverse phenomena - beware! Those who don't believe in the devil only provide proof of his existence.

Amorth, Gabriele (2002). An exorcist-- more stories. San Francisco: Ignatius Press. ISBN 0-89870-917-2. OCLC 51968861. A minor exorcism consists of sacraments and blessings used to treat demonic influence. The priest will usually deliver a prayer, invocation or litany upon the afflicted. Lay people may also pray on the afflicted’s behalf. Once you have identified your demon, then it's time to exorcise him. This might work immediately, or it might take years. It might only work a bit. It might not work at all. Sometimes it will work but you will still need a doctor to fix the damage the demon did in the meantime. Sometimes it will work but you won't be able to tell until later. Sometimes it will only work for a while. Whatever happens, exorcism will be assumed to have been an effective course of action. At a conference in 2011, he denounced yoga as “the devil’s work” because it leads people to Hinduism and other religions based on what he saw as the false idea of reincarnation. He also said the devil is in the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling, because its plot centered around magic. You can even watch him performing an exorcism. In 2016, Vanity Fair asked film director Friedkin to travel to Italy to write a story about Amorth. He became the first person to film the priest performing an exorcism and used the footage he gathered to make the 2017 documentary The Devil and Father Amorth. The Vatican last codified the rites of exorcism in 2004 in an updated Latin-language document, De Exorcismis et Supplicationibus Quibusdam. [19] Books [ edit ] Fr. Amorth's stated purpose in writing this book is to let people know that the devil is real, and the battle against him is ongoing. He hopes that bishops and other priests will again take seriously the difficult task of the exorcist and work to defeat the devil. He also reminds the general public of the reality of this problem, and how one may become subject to demonic influences. This includes even what most people think of as totally innocuous, such as the persistent use of foul language.
