After you’ve selected the relevant focusing option and your shooting modes, you’re ready to take your shot. Line it up in the viewfinder, and press relatively firmly down on the shutter release button, which is found on the front of the camera. This takes the shape of a Lomo logo and is a little on the discreet side - it’s easy to find with your forefinger though when holding the camera in a standard orientation. Let’s be honest, nobody is buying a Lomo camera for stunning image quality, but rather the fun and nostalgia which it invokes. The Instax Mini 12 is the perfect camera when you want to capture a moment without having to think about how to do it. And coming in five pastel color options, the camera itself adds to the festive mood. But what if you've got an honest-to-goodness Polaroid camera? The company has been reborn in the 21st century—it's gone through some name changes over the years, from the Impossible Project to Polaroid Originals, but today it's just called Polaroid. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Exposure also takes some getting used to. The Square doesn't have a full manual exposure mode (few instant cameras do), so you're going to rely on its ambient light meter to judge exposure. The problem with an ambient meter is that, in situations with mixed lighting, it can be off. You can brighten or darken shots by a stop using the EV compensation controls on the rear, and I recommend using the brighter setting when shooting indoors. The Square shoots a bit too dark indoors and in dim light by default. For nighttime street shots, set the camera on a tripod and use the remote to do a timed exposure, or the body's Bulb mode for long exposure. Fans of Fujifilm’s Instax instant film format should pay attention to Lomography. The company has a growing library of cameras that use Instax, all of which offer more creative control than you get with models from Fujifilm.Lomo introduced the Instant Square as the first analogue camera on the market to use the Fuji Instax Square format film. Manual focus is required. The lens is a 27mm (full-frame equivalent) prime; the wide field of view and narrow aperture capture quite a large depth of field, so zone focus is possible. When the lens board is closest to the film plane, the camera captures everything from 1 meter to infinity in focus, and using the focus lever to extend it away from the body allows for close focus from 0.4 to 0.9 meter. There are no markings for feet or inches, so you'll have to think metric when focusing—just remember that 1 meter is about 3.3 feet. The optical viewfinder is fixed and offset from the lens, but the Instant doesn't focus close enough for parallax to be an issue when framing images. The 60mm f/8 plastic lens might sound a little odd if you’re used to the latest Sony or Canon lens, but that’s music to the ears of any lomo fan.If you attempt to take a photo while the camera is switched off, the next time you take a shot with the Lomo Instant on, you will get a double exposure - so that is something to watch out for, especially given that the camera will automatically turn itself off after a while. The close-up lens is available for times when you want to get close to a subject. However, I have struggled to get acceptably sharp results, but it’s something you may get better results with if you’re prepared to put in quite a bit of practice. It includes a snap-on close-up lens which is easy to lose. The camera's auto flash optimizes the lighting according to distance, and you can choose the fill-in flash with a flash-on LCD button. There’s something delightfully charming about the Wide’s oversized prints: significantly larger than the Instax Mini format found in cheaper instant cameras, yet more of a novelty than the typical square Polaroid prints. Instant film was already niche, and this is another step beyond. It’s not for everyone, but if you’re an instant addict, it’s a good addition to any collection. The top of the lens board houses a dial to adjust the aperture—it's set at f/16 by default, but can be adjusted to f/8, f/11, f16, and f/22—along with a shutter release and a thread for a shutter release cable. Using a cable along with a tripod is recommended for long Bulb exposures. The switch labeled MX allows you to capture multiple exposures on a single frame; you can fire the shutter as many times as you like when it's in the MX position, and eject the frame by moving it down to an unlabeled position.

That said, the Lomo'Instant Automat delivers more consistent results than some of the other instant cameras on the market, and generally speaking if you use the camera in decent light, you will find that it is capable of producing some pleasing images. The Lomo’Instant is available in four awesome styles and is the perfect size to take wherever you go! It’s the most creative way to shoot fantastic photos which you can share anywhere and with everyone in an instant. Enjoy the beauty of analogue photography and get inspired with this feel good instant camera! Go Wild With Lovable Instant Features Various aspects of the Lomo Instant can be altered by using the controls on the front of the camera. You can alter the focus range, allowing you to switch from 0.4-0.9 metres to 1 metre to infinity. If you attach one of the lens filters, you will need to change this depending on which attachment you’re using (a full set of instructions comes in the box). Lomography is an avant-garde approach to photography that uses quirky camera gear to achieve a lo-fi aesthetic.
