version 4.2;HID (mouse/keyboard connectivity)/HOGP (Low Energy device connectivity)/SPP(Serial Port Profile)/A2DP (stereo audio) 2 /AVRCP (AV remote control) At the core of the TV is Sony’s new Cognitive Processor XR, which combines the AI abilities of its X1 predecessor with a system that Sony calls cognitive intelligence. While AI analyses picture and sound signals and uses data based on machine learning, cognitive intelligence aims to add a more human perspective to identify and enhance AV performance and deliver an experience in line with how humans see and hear the world. Offering 4K HDR TV technology this stunning XR55A90JUis ready for the future, and has unmatched picture quality. Cognitive Processor XR is designed to replicate the way our brains think to optimisethe picture and sound accordingly. With XR Contrast, Colour and Motion theXR55A90JU is truely next level in its ability to produce the best picture possible.

With XR Contrast Booster bright areas are brighter and dark areas darker, so no more details overwhelmed by shadow or lost in blown-out highlights. UK buyers might be pleased to learn that there are native apps for both Now (previously Now TV) and BT Sport but, at the time of writing, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub and All 4 are missing. Our understanding is that these will be added shortly, but the official line from Sony is that they “are expected to be available later in 2021”, which is slightly concerning in its vagueness. We’ll be keeping an eye on this and will update the review accordingly. However, if movies and TV shows are your priority and you have the budget, we haven’t tested a better television than the Sony A90J. It’s pricey, but it’s also a clear cut above the competition. The Sony A90J has good HDR brightness, good enough to make bright highlights pop. However, there isn't much consistency across scenes with different luminance levels due to the TV's Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL). It performs similarly to the LG G1 OLED, but it's not as bright as the LG G2 OLED. Warming up the TV doesn't significantly impact the HDR brightness.dib1 said:Hi, as someone who has a 2020 LG Oled, I would be very wary of a manufacturer promising catch-up apps at a later dateLG/other brands with an in-house smart experience struggle to get app support in a timely manner or be as futureproof because they have to publish the apps internally through their own review/system process then sometimes they drastically change their OS from year to year leading to fragmentation as they move on to selling the next year's model & so on. That's why you have LG missing apps like HBO MAX or the newer Discovery+ app or missing certain features in other popular apps as well such as Hulu where older WebOS 3.0 LG tvs can't watch live tv/add-on services. With XR Contrast Booster bright areas are brighter and dark areas darker, so no more details overwhelmed by shadow or lost in blown-out highlights. Enjoy beautiful pictures from any angle with X-Wide Angle. Two narrow, rectangular, gunmetal feet keep the A90J upright on flat surfaces. By default, the feet simply hold the TV stable, with the bottom of the screen nearly flush with your entertainment console. The feet can also be rotated to lift the TV up a few inches, in case you want to place a soundbar under it. The 83-inch model has a third configuration that moves the feet from the edges of the TV closer to the middle, so you can place the big screen on a surface that isn’t as wide as it is. BBC’s Planet Earth II looks gorgeous on the A90J. Colors are vibrant and saturated while still looking natural, from the greens of leaves to the blues of water. The excellent contrast and color make the picture look downright lifelike. Fine details like fur and bark are crisp and clear, and can be easily discerned whether they’re in bright sunlight or dark shade.

Deadpool also looks excellent on the A90J, with the red of Deadpool’s costume appearing vivid under the overcast light of the opening scene. The burning lab fight shows off the TV’s strong contrast, with shadow details coming through clearly in the darkness against the bright light of the flames. Part of the Cognitive Processor XR, XR Sound Positioning works to sync the sound to the correct part of the image, as accurately as possible. XR Surround with 3D Surround Upscaling takes a regular audio signal and creates a virtual surround sound effect – making you feel more immersed in the action. Google TV also provides access to Google Assistant. It lets you use voice commands to control compatible smart home devices (which includes virtually all major smart home brands at this point) and the TV itself, search for content to watch or listen to, and get general information like weather reports and sports scores. Left and right subwoofers provide powerful bass, so you can enjoy truly immersive cinematic sound at home. Our measurements use the 'Gradation Preferred' setting, but it may be helpful to note that while the 'Gradation Preferred' setting results in a more accurate EOTF, the 'Brightness Preferred' setting lets you get a brighter image without having to make too many other adjustments. If you want to see the difference these settings make, you can see the 'Brightness Preferred' EOTF here and the EOTF with HDR Tone Mapping disabled here. The 100 inch XR100X92 (or X92J) uses the same processor but has a different speaker configuration and our results aren't valid for it. There's also an 85 inch model known as the Sony X91J, but it uses a different processor, and our results aren't valid for that model, but you can see the differences between them below. The model numbers arethe same in North America and Europe, but itmay have a dash in it.
