I absolutely adored the subtle Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit nods scattered throughout the book specially the “second breakfast”. Smiths world building was amazingly magical, and throughout every chapter I felt transported to Pararellia.

Frankie did have big plans to watch YouTube and eat pot noodles that weekend but it looks like she’ll just have to go on an epic mega-dangerous quest instead . Children who like fairytales and also those that don’t (like Frankie) will love this magical adventure - perhaps she can help convince a few more minds that quests are awesome! The chapters are short, there are diary entries, view points change, overall it is a light hearted adventure read and if you need to drop out of our world for a little while this is a fab one to enter. One of my grandsons, 9 years old and slightly dyslexic, was in need of something to capture his imagination which would help with his reading.

We’ve re-named Puffin Virtually Live so that it’s easier for new teachers to discover it as part of Puffin Schools and to acknowledge that the show now premieres on show day, rather than being streamed live.To have any chance of rescuing her grandfather, Frankie has to get up to speed, quickly, with all the rules and lore of the genre (luckily, Joel is usually on hand to help, in a very annoying way).

Instead they end up at Grandad's house and Granda is a bit unique, they have been kept away for a while and can't really remember why.

Instead, they have to stay with their grandad and Frankie is dreading it as they don’t know him very well.

As a journalist he has covered national politics for Vanity Fair, where he is a contributing editor, and 9/11, "Saturday Night Live," Derek Jeter, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and New York politics, among many subjects, for New York Magazine.Forget what you think you know about fairytales as ‘Frankie Best hates Quests’ turns that on its head. Not only is she stuck at Grandad’s for a whole week while her parents swan off to the arctic, now she’s discovered that there’s NO WIFI anywhere in the house! This is the first middle grade book I’ve picked up for 24 years and even though I’m a lot older now I can honestly say I enjoyed every second of it. However, please be aware that it uses a YouTube player and that you should check your school’s permissions to ensure that YouTube isn’t blocked.
