Description

The 5120×1440 resolution provides you with 108.99 PPI (pixels per inch) on the 48.8″ viewable screen of the AOC AG493UCX2 monitor. As a result, you get plenty of screen real estate with sharp details and text. You also won’t have to use scaling to make small text readable.

The display itself is brilliantly bright and vivid, peaking at over 600 nits, and because it’s a VA panel, the contrast is visibly better than most IPS alternatives. Colour accuracy has seen a significant improvement, too, with an average DeltaE of just 0.68 in sRGB mode (compared to 1.6 on the AG493UCX). The picture quality of the AG493UCX2 is decent out of the box, but you’ll need to make a few tweaks to get it looking its best. sRGB display colour is accurate, but the default gamma is inaccurate. Changing to Gamma 2 was closer to the 2.2 curve but still required calibration to reach an acceptable level of accuracy. On mac, I'm still testing/tinkering but I'm unable to close my laptop display and use single screen @ 5120x1440 working. It works when the lid is open with the screen on, but as soon as i close the screen it goes dark. I'll update if i figure it out. First off this monitor is impressive and probably a 5/5 for most Windows users. For us Mac folks.. getting 5K feels like bait and switch, however. It took some time to figure out how to get the full 5120x1440 resolution to work on a Mac.. but i got it working!! FYI - Apple support told me this would not work without an AMD chip set but turns out they were either wrong or didn't interpreter their won documentation as i did.Approximate diagonal size of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the diagonal is calculated from the width and height of the screen. Moving on, the AOC AGON AG493UCX2 has five response time overdrive modes: Off, Weak, Medium, Strong and Boost. I had considered the Samsung G9 but for that price and the fact that I like play with setting turned up I knew I would never get close to that frame rate and have no interest in spending thousands to trying to game at 240 fps using ridiculously high settings. If it were really into first person shooters I might feel differently.

I can multi-task with this monitor -- using it as two separate 27 monitors, or by using multiple windows. Windowed gaming is very easy, with more than enough space for OBX controls, and chat, on either side of the Gaming window (center). Looking for a super-ultrawide monitor that’s great for both gaming and productivity work? You’re going to love the AOC Agon AG493UCX2! Image Quality

Of course, you can get a much better HDR gaming monitor at this price range, but the AOC AG493UCX2 focuses on other things. Although this is still an improvement over the previous model, a lot of minor niggles remain, which when added together make this harder to recommend. Source switching and startup are painfully slow, motion handling isn’t great, and you only really get the best out of this monitor over DisplayPort, which stops this being the one screen to rule them all. The most trustworthy reviewers have not posted anything on those models, though, which is why I am asking you: Is there anyone here with first-hand experience that he or she wants to share? :) Another constant niggle I had was when switching display inputs, as it takes a painfully long time to switch, often in excess of 12 seconds. I also had issues with the AG493UCX2 not switching on automatically with an HDMI source. It can take over 20 seconds to activate the screen from standby (compared to 1 to 3 seconds with most other AOC panels), which makes it frustrating when it doesn’t turn on at all, as you have to wait just in case it’s dragging its heels. AOC’s updated double-wide AG493UCX2 could appeal to some, but there are too many incompatibility issues for it to be a solid recommendation

A pixel response time of 1ms means speed without the smear for an enhanced experience. Fast-moving action and dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the effects of ghosting. Information of the number of pixels in a unit of length. With the decrease of the display size and the increase of its resolution, the pixel density increases. In the Standard Eco mode with Game Mode turned off, we engaged the User color temp and made slight changes to the RGB sliders. Gamma was left on the first preset, which is a tad dark at an average value of 2.3. The other two options washed out the picture, so we avoided them. On a positive note, PBP (picture by picture) mode now lets you adjust brightness and contrast without having to switch to single-source mode to make adjustments. It’s a very welcome and significant improvement. Anyway, what about speed? AOC offers user-configurable overdrive in the OSD menu. In truth, the various levels of overdrive don’t look terribly different subjectively. But at least the fastest mode doesn’t suffer from obvious overshoot and inverse ghosting. In any case, response is best considered good but not quite as sharp as the best 1ms IPS gaming monitors.
