Of the five banned episodes that have aired on Japanese television, this is the first one that was banned in all countries outside of Asia. The reason why the episode is "banned" is because there is a scene halfway in where James cross-dresses and wears inflatable breasts for a beauty contest. Although intended for comic effect, the nature of the scene caused so much controversy that the whole episode was banned for almost three years, until it was aired as a heavily cut version that was only 18 minutes long. This edited version was titled "The Lost Episode" when it aired in 2000.

In the original series, Ash's most common swimwear is a pair of teal trunks with yellow stripes running down the sides. He also wore those same swim trunks in the end credits of Jirachi Wishmaker. In Lights, Camerupt, Action!, Ash when he was younger wore a green shirt with a yellow stripe in the middle and gray pants.

Formal clothes are a key part of Dawn's wardrobe since she dresses up nicely for all her Pokémon Contests. In Pulling Out the Pokémon Base Pepper! and Showering the World with Love!, Lillie wore a baseball uniform when she played Pokémon Base with her classmates. Before leaving her home to start her journey, she was shown to have many clothes in the bag her mother asked her to leave behind.

Cilan wore a brown detective cap in Where Did You Go, Audino? when investigating the missing Audino. He wore the same hat in Meowth's Scrafty Tactics!, The Mystery of the Missing Cubchoo!, Cilan and the Case of the Purrloin Witness!, and Must Be Our Heroes and the Witch!. In the second and third variant of the Mad-Paced Getter opening and the Limited Pokémon Edition cover art of the Dream Dream, Serena wore a marching band outfit with her Pokémon. In a giveaway quiz featured in Mega-Mega Meowth Madness! for Pokémon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Awakened and Eevee & Friends DVDs, and the Get Pokémon TV set, Bonnie wore a Santa outfit. In Battling The Generation Gap!, Jessie, while under the name Jessilina, wore an outfit based on Fantina and had her hair up in the same style.

In March of the Exeggutor Squad, Jessie wore a red one piece swimsuit while James wore light-blue swim briefs. Whenever she is sleeping, Dawn wears a set of pink pajamas with light yellow stripes on the sides with a zip on the top piece and a white undershirt, first seen in Setting the World on its Buneary!. She also wore them in Nightfall? Nightmares!. In A Keeper for Keeps?, Clemont wore a light-green apron with a pink half shape heart in the middle during a fantasy. In Pulling Out the Pokémon Base Pepper!, Jessie and James wore a baseball uniforms when they played Pokémon base against Ash and his friends. Their uniforms also have an “R” logo on them. In Smashing with Sketch!, Ash wore a blue ping-pong uniform when he played Pokémon Ping-Pong with his classmates.In Crystal-Clear Sleuthing!, Ash wears a white T-shirt with the print design of the same rainbow Poké Ball design from Professor Kukui's hat. Liko debuted in The Pendant That Starts It All: Part One. She enrolled in the Indigo Academy at the Kanto region, where she formed a friendship with her roommate Ann and received her partner Pokémon, a Sprigatito. During the next few days, Liko worked hard to strengthen her bond with Sprigatito by learning more about it and make it listen to her instructions in battle, but to little avail.

In Getting the Pre-Contest Titters!, Dawn when she was younger wore a pair of pink pajamas and white buttons in the middle. She also wore a brown boot on one foot and a white sandal on the other. In the Grand Festival, she wore a new light yellow dress with a red-pink ribbon sewn to the chest, like the one on her forehead, an orange sash at the torso area, white ruffles, opera-length white gloves, and white pumps. In Real Life...Inquire Within!, Mallow wore a nurse outfit similar to the one that the Nurse Joy of Melemele Island wears. In Lillier and the Staff!, Sophocles wore a King and Tapu Bulu costume during a play at the Pokémon School. Also, in the same episode, Sophocles wore a police officer uniform, a Stakataka costume, and a business man outfit.

Misty's beach ball appears similar to a Master Ball. This Master Ball beach ball later reappeared in A Hot Water Battle and the Pikachu short Pikachu's Ice Adventure. In her debut appearance, she was shown to be wearing three different formal outfits when imagining herself in Contests with each of the Sinnoh starters. In her Chimchar fantasy, she was seen wearing a crimson red dress; in the Piplup fantasy, she was wearing a light green dress; and in the Turtwig fantasy, she was wearing a lavender suit with a top hat. In Keeping Your Eyes on the Ball!, Lana wore a pink shirt and blue short golf uniform with a visor hat when she played Pokémon Golf with her classmates.
