About this deal
Dropped the heat to 9 degrees, took them off schedules, they still are following the lead of another zone in the house. If it is attached to the radiator, there is no noise, nor actuator movement, even if I turn of the zone in the app. Powered by two AA batteries, the smart thermostat can be freestanding on a table or shelf, or mounted on a wall. The Drayton Wiser components are all made from white plastic, so they lack the stylish metal and glass found on rival smart heating thermostats. The plus and minus button allow you to adjust the desired temperature of the room, while the middle button boosts the heating in said room by two degrees.
The issue is that while the electronics sound like they are working, the valves either open too much or not at all. For retrofitting installations, the head of the old TRV is removed and the new smart TRV head is screwed on, it is often as simple as that and can be done by the homeowner. Would having the boiler firing on, and wiser TRVs turning the kitchen/bathroom/bedroom rads off, and just the living room radiater being heated. You can tap on a room and edit the schedule or access the room settings, where you can view the battery level for the thermostat, rename it and turn Open Window Detection on or off. I’m not fully aware of the Wiser system but assume it also has a boiler demand relay module that means if all it’s TRVs are satisfied it also turns off the boiler, so again once the room temperatures are satisfied the boiler will also stop firing.Only had this system partially fitted for a couple of days now and I'm immediatley noticing the saved heat in non (day) use rooms in the house.
Rather than switching the heating off completely while you’re out, this feature allows you to set a minimum temperature at which you want your home to remain at while away. I think you have convinced me to get two more smart TRV's and put them in the bathroom and the kitchen. I'm thinking ahead to the summer really so I guess I will have to get another wall stat for these rads.I have had a smart plug just delivered, I intended to add a small fan heater in the kitchen to the back room thermostat area alongside the 2 rads as its difficult to heat that end , you can add it to the room, but not put it under thermostat scheduled control unfortunately, they do have a heat switch that will do the job, so I'll maybe try that. From the home screen, you can also view the weather for your location and sunrise and sunset times, too.
