About this deal

I would thoroughly recommend it, if you like books such as , and enjoy a good historic fiction book that is suitable for ages 10- and up, then Once is another good one to add to your TBR list. Merging all this together with so much more, bullying, love, grief, a precocious little child, family and more.

Now that I look back, this book makes me feel like I've experienced a holocaust survivor child's suffering and lifetime. two six-part novels written in collaboration with Paul Jennings, Adults Only, Toad Heaven, Boy Overboard, Teacher's Pet, and his latest book, Toad Away. In 2016, his book Soon won the 2016 Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Award, Young Readers and and the 2016 Kids Own Australian Literature Awards (KOALAs) for Fiction for years 7-9. It's a collection of short stories I've been working on for the last year or so - as a kind of refresher course for the imagination after the long and exhausting (but I'm not complaining) process of writing a novel. As an older reader you experience the horrors of war creeping into Felix’s reality slowly, bit by bit and with a gut-churning inevitability that you wish you could stop… It’s utterly horrendous. Of course, everyone assumed that I had actually seen it happen, because what kid could just make something like that up? I absolutely loved Felix and his willingness to want to help his young 11or12 year old granddaughter at times that she has nothing to be worried about. In Gletizman’s book there’s a friendly Jewish dentist, who hides children in his basement and tends to the teeth of Nazi soldiers.

But quite frankly I thought this book diminished the child reader's acuity and as such was not (for me) helpful with the overall topic itself. Instead this book jumps right to him being 80 and with no mention of what happened in the years between. When I explained that Now would be the third and final book about Felix (as at that stage I thought it would be), and that since finishing Then I’d been haunted by curiosity about how the terrible and sometimes wonderful events of Felix’s childhood would affect the rest of his life, and that I wanted Felix to have an experience late in his life that would give him the chance to lay some of the ghosts and demons and sadness of his childhood to rest, Laura nodded understandingly. Now comes the seventh and final part of Felix’s story, bringing to a powerful climax a series that countless young readers around the world will remember – Always.Once I finished this book my jaw dropped, this book is about world war 2 and and this little Jewish boy try’s to run away with a little girl but he caught in so much trouble.
