About this deal

Actor and author Ruth Jones’s third novel tells a story of conflict between four generations of Welsh women. Her novels are full of wonderful characters and the stories so well written, much in the same vein as Graham Norton.

A respected head teacher at the local school, Elin couldn't bear anyone to find out the truth about her mother. Alys abandoned her own daughter, Elin, years before, and now Elin’s daughter, Beca, is facing emotional dilemmas too. The very successful series had guest appearances from the likes of Tim Rhys-Jones, Craig Bellamy, and James Corden.

She has no idea quite what will happen next and whatever it is, it is sure to cause trouble in the family. I would like to thank both Netgalley and Random House for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. It was in this year that Stan Stennett a comedian producer invited her to perform at the Porthcawl Pavilion in Dick Whittington. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, but I didn't find myself gripped like I did with her others.

She has won acclaim for her performances in BBC dramas Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Little Dorrit and Hattie, as well as comedies Little Britain, Saxondale and Nighty Night. Welsh royalty and actress turned best-selling author Ruth Jones releases her third book Love Untold, a warm, joyous and heartbreaking generation-spanning novel. She just wants a quiet celebration: her daily swim in the sea and a cup of tea with granddaughter Elin and great-granddaughter Beca. It is a joy-filled, life-affirming, sob-inducing novel - with characters you'll come to know and love - from no. Biography: Ruth Jones is best known for her outstanding and award-winning television writing, most notably BBC One's Gavin and Stacey, which she co-wrote with James Corden and in which she played the incorrigible Nessa Jenkins.Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher / author for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book for review. One of these is a couple that has been enjoying their union while another is not having such a great time given that an old affair was rekindled and is not threatening to destroy everything they built. Like all teenagers she is completely immersed in the ups and downs of teenage life, holding secrets of her own and not really paying much attention to anything else, especially the bores of family dynamics.

Told from each woman's point of view this novel criss-crosses backwards and forwards in time, stopping on key events in their lives. The two women could not have been more different as they have different ambitions and backgrounds, even though they are bound by friendship and loyalty. Was the representation of older women and generational women of importance to you when writing this book? I often find it hard to keep up with multigenerational novels and each chapter written from someone else’s perspective but the transitions in this were pretty seamless and the humour was just right. It's going to take all of Grace's will to right the wrongs of the past and she is running out of time.

I just loved the idea that when you’re very young, a teenager, you just think old people are old people and that they couldn’t possibly understand what you’re going through as a teenager. I fell in love with Grace, Elin, Beca (and Soozi) straight away, but it did take me a long time to warm to Alys. A decade later, we see them about to celebrate graduating from their A levels and the start of their adult lives with a trip to several beautiful islands in Greece. It got into the depths of mother / daughter / grandmother / great grandmother relationships in such a wonderful and both heartbreaking and endearing way.
