In October 2020, Albarn stated that he had "loads and loads of songs" for a direct sequel to Plastic Beach, citing "the need to keep reminding people that we need to change our habits" as his main reason for revisiting the album's themes. The 2010 LP (the one with runouts containing "BA" - all others are future reissues) has the higher frequencies rounded off so much that it sounds dull and muffled in places. The closer to the center of the record the needle is, the more static there is in the right channel, rendering that disc of the album pretty much unlistenable.
