We wouldn’t use the Fujifilm 23mm f2 for standard portraiture because, at 35mm, you’re going to get some level of distortion in facial features.

When the 35mm F2was released, with its weather resistance and such small form factor I knew then that what I really wanted was a 23mm in the same format. It is not a true macro lens, but you can use it for typical macro subjects, such as flowers and still life, to good effect. To get really this multi-purpose lens to get sharp photos of anything close up, you’d have to stop the lens down to f4. The bayonet style fitting of the 23mm F2 WR lens hood feels a little more substantive than the screw-in hood of the 35mm F2 WR, but both are a little plasticy and it would have been nice to see a little more effort when compared to the quality build of the lenses themselves. The only thing to note is a minor difference in geometry, with a small pincushion from the XF 23mm f2 and a small barrel from the XF 23mm f1.

And while weather sealing is nice if you shoot out in the beach or dusty areas, does WS really matter? The 23mm is a much more compact offering, making it perhaps a better choice for those looking for a travel-friendly lens.This Fuji prime lens has no manual focus switch, so the only ways to switch to manual mode are either in the menu or on the camera’s body – for the cameras that have this functionality.
