I like a lot about this particular coffee maker. My favourite thing is probably how small and compact that it is. This makes it a great option for places such as my personal study. I might even consider buying a couple of them to send out during the Holidays since they’re small and easy to ship.

While this is all well and good during the week when everybody has to wake up early for work, it doesn’t work out so well on the weekends when everybody has the day off and wants to sleep in. Thankfully, this espresso maker is incredibly quiet when it comes to grinding coffee. Again, if we have one complaint, it’s that coffees with lots of milk tend to come out lukewarm rather than hot. This is understandable, but if you like piping hot coffee you might need to put milky drinks in the microwave for a few seconds. That doesn’t mean it’s not as obvious as it might seem: you have to press the button for a very long time for it to do its job. When it comes to naming the drinks and buttons, on other hand, things get really adventurous because there’s no espresso on the menu here. For the test, I chose the finest grind for the espresso and opted for a ‘short coffee’, then adjusted the fill volume further down. The fill volume range here extends from around 20-180 milliliters (0.67-6 fluid ounces), which is just about convincing in the minimum range. I settled on around 25 milliliters (0.85 fluid ounces) and used the ‘very strong’ coffee quantity setting. In any household, the person who wakes up first usually gets blamed for waking everybody else up. This is almost always undoubtedly due to the fact that they’re the ones who are grinding and making coffee in the morning.I also have nothing to complain about with the DeLonghi ECAM 23.460. The factory-set intervals for descaling and basic cleaning are already fairly well-integrated, so you only have to adjust them if you have particularly hard water. Be prepared to replace the filter regularly if you make a lot of coffee though. The machine prompts you to descale and replace the filter every 100 cups. Other Features Sure, it produces a light hum, but it’s nowhere near enough to wake up everybody else. The quiet grinding also makes it ideal for office use as you won’t have to worry about disturbing your co-workers or interrupting important meetings. The brand manages to create a unique selling point through the inclusion of an automatic milk frothing system, a cup preheater and the 2-cup function, none of which are a given when reviewing a machine in this price category.

After each use of the milk carafe, the machine prompts you to switch it to “clean” mode. This dispenses water through the milk nozzle into the drip tray to keep it clean and ready to use for next time. While cleaning after each use won’t be problem when making the occasional cup, if you make coffee for the whole family the continuous prompting can be annoying. The only downside is that coffee doesn’t always come out as hot as we like. It’s usually just about fine when making an espresso, but more of an issue when you add milk. Other Coffee Taste De’Longhi is well known for making some of the highest quality home espresso makers on the market, and although this machine may appear small and simple from the outside, it can make a great cup of coffee any day of the week.Instead, there’s a ‘short coffee’, ‘medium coffee’, ‘long coffee’ and ‘extra long coffee’. With a bit of thinking outside the box, you’ll get the idea that a ‘short coffee’ is roughly equivalent to espresso, but this only works in reality when you increase the amount of ground coffee you’re using. DeLonghi can also pin another badge on itself for the quality of the espresso and milk foam. Again, I would have been surprised if that hadn’t been the case. The new ECAM series cuts a particularly fine figure in cup results at all price levels. This is where home espresso makers really come in handy. They turn your kitchen into a cafe and you into your own barista. You can come up with any concoction you like from a simple Americano to fancy Macchiatos, Mochaccinos, or Lattes. The choice is yours and the only thing limiting you is your own creativity. The most important factors when choosing a coffee machine are taste and aroma, and the Delonghi ECAM23.460 consistently produces lovely coffee. We think you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the espresso produced by this machine and coffee sold by major high street brands. The 23.460 is a mid-range bean-to-cup coffee machine. It’s not the most expensive, but it costs more than many alternatives.
