About this deal

Since I was wearing the finished suit at Dragon*Con 2009, I don't have any pictures of my own to show! Instead, I hope the owners of these respective photographs (credited here) don't mind me showing them off a bit. My "Little Sister" is my Fiancee, Emily Keith. Our "Baby Jane Splicer" is our friend Mandie Reese. Accent areas around the arms, legs, and top of the body were made out of insulation foam, then glued to the body. Before coating with paint or fiberglass resin, these were covered with Ureshell to prevent the poly foam from dissolving. Certain areas on the body itself were also given a coat of Ureshell so they would not disintegrate. After this was dry, the entire body piece was given several applications of fiberglass resin. Aside from the Alpha Series, Big Daddies communicate by uttering haunting sounds similar to that of whale calls. Alpha Series communicate with low, inhuman grunts and roars. For easier interpretation, production model Big Daddies have a bioluminescent chemical substance which filled the helmet, displaying its state of emotion or mind. [1] The Big Daddy has three different colors he will display. I started by cutting the R-Matte (RM) board into 3 - 3 ft sections. I then took and cut it into the rough cut=away shape. Also from the remaining R-matte board make a shoulder portion, a 3Ft circle for the front access port of the dome and then 2- 10" circles for the arms. It’s nice to be able to draw a perfect circle. Because of the size of circles I would be drawing, and the ineffectual nature of my first attempts at circle drawing tools, I finally broke down and just made a giant compass out of materials in my shop and zip-tied a sharpie to one arm. It gets the job done and doesn’t look half-bad doing it!

leave about a 2ft x 3ft opening on the bottom for access. You will need this for entering the Cosplay and it leaves and opening so the you can set it up on a stand and work easier. Clear quilting ruler. This is helpful when needing to draw perpendicular lines, and even has a few basic angles you can use as well. See a shape you want to copy? Wrap it in aluminum foil, cover it in duct tape, and you can cut it apart to make a pattern! However, Splicers continued to evolve over the years, making them more effective in ambushing Big Daddies. This forced Alexander to create a new model of Protector, the Rumbler, which was designed to effectively dispatch larger groups of enemies. [14] Stopping the Program [ ] To Create the Cage I used the 1 1/2" Bi-metal hole saw to make a hole on the top of the body, and also a hole in the center of the chest plate in line with the hole on the top. The easiest way to do this was to take on foam pipe and put one end in the top and take the other end and insert it into the chest plate hole. Adjust this to create the arc of the cage.To sew the pants I made the legs I sewed two tubes as large as I could and then sewed a wide strip in between them to make a makeshift overall pant that has tie straps to hold them up. These are the discs that go over the arms and legs. I don't have any shots handy of their creation, but they were made from layered pink foam, more Ureshell, and resin cast bolt heads. The first shot shows a raw bronze painted piece next to a completed weathered one.

With this breakthrough, it led to the further bonding of Big Daddies to Little Sisters, where Pheromones were used to make the girls attracted to the Big Daddies and not be afraid of them as they had been previously. With the bonding system now working, the Memorial Museum at Point Prometheus was changed to the Proving Grounds to be used for Big Daddy training. Suchong, who got the short end of the bargain, was still looking for the solution in genetic compatibility. Using the Lutece Device still left in his possession, he intended to steal a DNA sample of Fink's bonded test subject [10] but his research was put on hold when the City Council closed the department store to turn it into a prison for Fontaine's criminal gang. His Tear device was eventually damaged by vandals, but could still be remotely controlled from his clinic and secret laboratory at Artemis Suites, Apollo Square. On December 31, Suchong finally acquired the DNA sample from Elizabeth herself (ironically unknown to him that she was the same test subject who once bonded to Songbird) as she'd gone to the restaurant to repair the Lutece Device to return to Columbia. I made a pushmold of some bolt heads for texture, these were cast in resin and added to the tank as well as the banding on the main body. This bit of blood is my favorite part of all the weathering on the entire costume. Its details like that that I think really make the effect work.Hello! Welcome to Part 1 of my Build Log for my Big Daddy cosplay. Like MrsGryphon’s Little Sister costume, this is my first attempt at cosplay. We’ve done our fair share of creating other costumes – We’re big fans of the local annual zombie walk and regional Renaissance Festivals – but we figured the upcoming local con, SiouxperCon, would be a great time to try our hand at cosplay!

To create a really worn look, I added bits of debris to the fiberglass resin. This made a convincing textured metal finish in the end, as these parts were painted to look like rust, dents, and bits of splicer.

Columbia's Songbird Involvement [ ] “ These holes have shown me yet another wonder, though I’ve yet to see the application for it. They illuminate a merger of machine and man that is somehow the lesser, yet the greater, of both parties.” ― Jeremiah Fink [src] I made resin copies of wingnuts which were glued into place on the trim ring. About 15 of these resin duplicates weighed as much as a single wingnut. Since I had to wear this thing, every ounce saved counted! With those few items, you can start building some cosplay costumes. You might not be able to get real crazy, but it’s a start. Boltheads and a first coat of paint on the tank. The wheel at the top is a cake decoration from our local supermarket.

The front flap was added using more insulation foam, and also given a coat of Ureshell and resin. After this was dry, I began hollowing out the foam and cardboard.

Starting with the blueprints printed at full scale (HUGE) I made cross sections out of insulation foam and glued them into place. The empty areas between sections were filled with cardboard. This formed what I called the "skeleton" of the body. after everything is hardened I cut out as much foam and board as I could to make it as light as possible. Mine actually has a little foam in the arm are and on the top so that the stand will not break through. After adding some details on the body with foam tape, more ureshell, and more resin, I had a finished form! Since this is such a large project, I'll break down the build process into partitions: The main body, the dome, the drill arm, the dome cage, other details, and the final paintwork. I’ve used quite a few different tools on the road so far; some I already owned, some I had to buy, and some I even made. My plan was roughly to just keep throwing tools at the foam until a costume spontaneously formed. A pile of tools! Another pile of tools!
