About this deal

To test these models, the researchers developed the first realistic small-scale simulations of melting ice in salt water. Today, about 10% of land area on Earth is covered with glacial ice. Almost 90% is in Antarctica, while the remaining 10% is in the Greenland ice cap. Current models, which are incorporated into the methodology used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, assume that icebergs melt uniformly in ocean currents. However, Mr Hester and colleagues have shown that icebergs do not melt uniformly and melt at different speeds depending on their shape.

Hold on to the new ways of behaving, and make sure they succeed, until they become strong enough to replace old traditions. A volunteer army needs a coalition of effective people – born of its own ranks – to guide it, coordinate it, and communicate its activities.Whether you work in a business or the business of life, everyone from CEOs to high school students can gain from what they take from this story.” Dr. Vasil, who is Mr Hester's Ph.D. supervisor, said: "Before Eric started his Ph.D. the computational tools to model these kinds of systems didn't really exist. People are less likely to change themselves and others based on data and analysis than on compelling experiences.” John P. Kotter. This quote caught my attention because I realized that we don't change by the data, but from what we have learned by experiences that had an impact on us. We are most likely to change something because of what we have gone through, not because of what we see in a data table . In my personal experience when I make a changes is because of past experiences. I also learn better from experience not form theory. When you only know the theory, when it comes to putting it in practice it is really difficult. When you learn from experience, most likely, you are able to do a better job when it comes to putting in practice. This quote opened my eyes to realize that not everything is theory. Melting glaciers add to rising sea levels, which in turn increases coastal erosion and elevates storm surge as warming air and ocean temperatures create more frequent and intense coastal storms like hurricanes and typhoons. Specifically, the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are the largest contributors of global sea level rise. Right now, the Greenland ice sheet is disappearing four times faster than in 2003 and already contributes 20% of current sea level rise. Sea ice, on the other hand, is often compared to ice cubes in a glass of water: when it melts, it does not directly change the level of water in the glass. Instead, depleting Arctic sea ice triggers a host of other devastating consequences—from depleting available ice on which walrus can haul out or polar bears hunt to changing weather systems around the world by altering the pattern of the Jet stream. Why are glaciers melting?

Step Two – Pull Together the Guiding Team. Louis, the Head Penguin, pulled a team together to guide the colony through the challenges. The team was powerful and exhibited qualities of leadership, credibility, communications, authority, analytical skills, and a sense of urgency. After the composition of the team was determined they spent time (only two days) building a close-knit team.
